SBB awarded Pack Easy a project to design and manufacture new upcycling products. We used the old departure posters to design spacious shoppers and practical bag emptiers - each one unique in Switzerland. Produced in sunny Ticino and available exclusively in the SBB store.
Roberto's enthusiasm for the project is palpable: "With their traces of use, the products tell a fascinating story from their previous life, when they were still 'in the service' of thousands of passengers. These traces of use make the product unique. Now it is up to each proud owner to write their own stories about the SBB ReMake Shopper."

We can no longer imagine life without the zipper, as it has reliably and securely closed almost our entire product portfolio for over 60 years. Find out more about the history of the zipper.
]]>You probably use it every day: the zipper on your clothes, shoes and, of course, to securely close your ladies' bag or trolley.
100 years of security and efficiency - and who invented it? Swiss functionality has become an integral part of our daily lives.
The Solothurn engineer Simon Frey invented a zipper prototype even before the First World War. He was inspired by circus performers who had to change in seconds between their acts. However, no one in Europe recognized the enormous benefits of this and so no one with sufficient financial clout was willing to register the invention for a patent. It was not until years later - in 1923 - that another Swiss man acquired the patent for Europe and developed the idea further for series production. This is how the RiRi company came into being, which still manufactures luxury fasteners for quality products today.
In the production of our Swiss Made bags, we only use the luxurious Swiss "RiRi" zipper to ensure the highest quality right down to the closure.
Today, the 13 billion zipper market is dominated by China and Japan. The world's largest player "YKK" has been supplying us with top products since the beginning to close the majority of our luggage, securely and reliably, tooth by tooth.
We can rely on our products and this is also thanks to a secure closure. A big thank you at this point to the inventors who make life easier for us all.

When Spring awakens, life reveals its multifaceted beauty. Every ray of sunshine sparks irrepressible energy and anticipation of what lies ahead. While we can't always steer the ups and downs of our being, we can keep moving and become the choreographers of our life journey.
Are travel and dance related? Not at first sight, but let's take a closer look:
Dancers
and travellers are masters of improvisation. Even if they follow a rigid routine or a predefined itinerary, they always find room to let themselves be carried away by the flow of life.
Any
dance or any journey sparks with an impulse, rhythm, and images delivering a boost of inspiration.
No
destination is as important as the journey, the encounters, and the impressions gained on the way. It’s magical moments between humans and nature that put a smile on the dancer's and traveller's faces.
Captivating
choreographies are a masterpiece of loud and quiet moments, an alternation of suspense and rest, and the joyful anticipation of what lies ahead.
Experience
the dazzling beauty of Spring and movement while joining the Swiss dance community in bustling cities and some of the most remote places in the country.
Zurich dances, will you join in?
For ten days, Zurich transforms into a giant dance floor. Grab your hand luggage and treat yourself to a short break in the streets of the bustling city. Cultural and dance institutes open their doors to visitors of all ages and invite you to join their classes and public performances on the street. If you want to take in the atmosphere first, hop on the charming "Polybähnli" and travel within just 100 seconds to the spacious terrace of the ETH, which offers spectacular views across rooftops and streets. For creative breaks and rest, stroll along the river Limmat or the shores of Lake Zurich and find your favourite relaxation spot.
Rails are made for journeys, not destinations.
Switzerland has many faces, and Puschlav in the Grisons is undoubtedly one of the lesser known. Although even just the train ride itself to the Italian-speaking valley near the border to northern Italy is worth the trip. Feel the calming effects of the passing landscape with its crystal-clear mountain lakes, rough rocks, and green forests, and take in the stunning views. The historic town of Poschiavo exudes Mediterranean flair, a bit like Ticino, just in the Alps and with fewer tourists. The Piazza Comunale is the meeting place in the village. Here, where you can stretch your tired legs after an exhausting day of hiking, young and old gather during the "Festa Danzante", and the otherwise quiet alleyways are filled with music and rhythm.
Slow down on the shores of Lake Geneva
When the whole of Switzerland dances, the French-speaking parts naturally join in. Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel - all the well-known places that welcome travellers from all over the world. But a few smaller lakeside communities, known for their picturesque vineyards and sparkling white wines, also invite visitors to the "Fête de la Danse" in May. Bulgarian folk dances, hip-hop courses, a flash mob, or a silent party are looking to attract numerous spectators and dance enthusiasts. At other times of the year, things are a little more laid-back in Rolle and Morges on the shores of Lake Geneva. Historic old-town houses, a flower-fringed lakeside promenade, and the Geneva shipping company's Belle Époque paddle steamers even evoke a touch of nostalgia.
Cultural tour through a renowned university town
Anyone entering the Abbey Library of Saint Gall for the first time will also feel nostalgic. The century-old writings and frescoes lined with stucco work bear witness to times long past. In general, the capital of eastern Switzerland has much more to offer than universities and soccer. It is just as multifaceted as the dance offerings that fill the streets and cultural centers with life in May. A Swing soirée, breakdance battles, introductory ballet lessons, and flamenco classes leave nothing to be desired. Our LaVolante is the ideal companion for city strolls and lively dance evenings. And once you're tired, treat your feet to a little cooling off in the Three Ponds. The banks of the unique natural swimming pool are the ideal place to unwind after an eventful day.

As carefree as Mik's trip to Portugal had been, her beloved trolley suitcase suffered an accident on the return flight to Switzerland. Due to rough handling when loading the plane in Porto, her trolley case not only picked up some unsightly scratches, it also lost a wheel. Mik immediately realized that three-wheeled luggage is impractical when she took her suitcase off the conveyor belt in Zurich. "All right," thought our curious train bird, "at least my hard-shell suitcase" The rest is solved by the experts & suitcase doctors from "Pack Easy
At the Pack Easy Luggage Clinic, specialists carry out suitcase checks and warranty repairs and then take care of diagnosed suitcase damage and luggage repairs. The Swiss Luggage Clinic is unique: in Emmen, Pack Easy provides a comprehensive range of services for suitcases, travel bags and hand luggage. However, the suitcase doctors not only take care of the company's own luggage, but also repair defective bags, suitcases and trolleys from other manufacturers. In this way, Pack Easy lives sustainability far beyond production and sales. Responsible, entrepreneurial action is an integral part of the company philosophy.
After Mik got her luggage back from the repair, she realized one thing: Before she goes exploring next time, she will deliver her suitcase to Pack Easy's suitcase SPA in Emmen. The luggage experts will carry out a suitcase check, inspect it, clean it and - if necessary - repair it. From now on, Mik's luggage will always be fit for travel and ready for use again at any time.
As an adventurer who loves discovery, Mik also loves travelling in her own home country. Equipped with her trolley and travel bags, our travel bird set off for a long weekend in a camper van to the west of Switzerland at the beginning of summer. Her practical leather bags were also easy to stow away in the rolling hotel room, because clothes remained perfectly stored in them.
The Grand Tour of Switzerland route that presents the very best of Switzerland in nine stages. Mik set off from Basel on her road trip of the year. She tingled in her own mobile home on her way towards French-speaking Switzerland through the diverse natural landscapes of the Jura and along the Swiss-French border.
The Val de Travers enchanted her. That's how she got to know the 'green fairy' in the absinthe museum in Môtiers. For decades, it had been forbidden to distil the mysterious wormwood, yet the ancient craft survived and has been produced legally again since 2005. Also stunning in the quiet valley is the Swiss Grand Canyon, the Creux-du-Van. The breathtaking geological feature of the Jura is known for spectacular views of the surrounding region.
Mik's journey continued through hilly hinterland to Yverdon-les-Bains. The medieval town at the western most tip of Lake Neuchâtel is an insider tip for travellers in motorhomes. A comfortable campsite with shady pitches is located on a small peninsula on the best shore location. Continuing west, Mik crossed the exceptional Parc Jura Vaudois coming from Romainmôtier. In the north of the nature park lies the Vallée de Joux, known for its lakes and legendary Swiss watchmaking. On the other side of Mont Tendre, the villages at the foot of the Jura ridge offered breathtaking views of Lake Geneva and the spectacular Alpine scenery in Valais and bordering France.
Via Aubonne and Morges, Mik finally reached Lausanne, the capital of the canton of Vaud. She strolled through alleys and along beautiful promenades on the shores of Lac Léman. Finally, she visited the Olympic Museum, located on the Quai d'Ouchy in the middle of a wonderful park.
One of the world's most beautiful wine regions stretches along the Riviera, the Mediterranean like shore region between Lausanne and Montreux. The Lavaux region with its perfectly aligned slopes appears like a painting at any time of year. More than 400, kilometres of dry stone walls enable winegrowers to plant vines on any area, no matter how small. The Vinorama in Rivaz is dedicated to the centuries-old art of wine growing. Built into a rock face, this multimedia visitor centre opens up the history, culture and enjoyment of Vaud wine to those interested.
Mik finished her Tour des Suisse in Chillon. She had always wanted to see Switzerland's most famous castle up close - and suddenly it was in front of her. Majestically enthroned in the glistening light of the approaching sunset, the world-famous Château de Chillon put the sparkling icing on the cake of her road trip through western parts of Switzerland.
]]>Mik is known to be an epicure. She loves to sit back on her travels and let the impressions sink in. What could be better than a relaxing train ride via Geneva to Lyon? Equipped with a practical trolley suitcase and her beloved weekender bag, she set off for the French gourmet capital for a few days at the beginning of summer.
With more than half a million inhabitants, Lyon is France's third-largest city. But that doesn't change its relaxedness, which it virtually hurls at visitors' feet as they explore. Lyon is relaxed and tempts you to slow down and indulge. Moreover, Provence with its incomparable light, the natural treasures and lush farm gardens of the Ardèche, the vast plains of the Rhone Valley and the endless vineyards of the Beaujolais are not far away.
Lyon impresses with a unique mix of culinary delights, architecture and savoir-vivre. There are, for example, grand bourgeois palaces and squares or the Art Nouveau and Renaissance grandeur of Presqu'île. The narrow peninsula situated between the two rivers Rhone and Saône is the business centre of Lyon. Here you will find department stores, boutiques and restaurants as well as numerous magnificent buildings and cultural sights. And the Rue de la République, the longest pedestrian zone in Europe, runs right through the middle of the central district.
Built from 1165 onwards, Saint-Jean Cathedral is a cultural monument in the Romanesque-Gothic style and impresses with mosaics, shining gold paintings and imposing stained-glass windows. Like an eagle's nest, the white, four-towered landmark of Lyon dominates the Vieux Lyon district. It stands high above the banks of the Saône. In contrast, the pilgrimage church of Notre-Dame de Fourvière appears almost new. It was built from 1872 onwards and, together with other historical sites, has been part of Lyon's UNESCO World Heritage since 1998. The new Confluences district with its contemporary buildings by well-known architects such as Renzo Piano, Santiago Calatrava and Jean Nouvel is a hyper modern counterpart.
But Lyon is above all the gourmet metropolis of France, which makes gourmets rave in high tones. The south-eastern French city has over 4000 restaurants - more than a dozen of them decorated with stars. French celebrity chef Paul Bocuse influenced Lyon's culinary scene for decades, but it's actually the small, unassuming restaurants- called 'bouchons' - that make up Lyon's true gastronomic identity.
As a fashion travel bird, Mik of course always has an eye for beauty. To explore the diverse restaurant scene in the evening and at the same time always have the most important things at hand, her Swiss Made ladies' handbags from Pack Easy served perfectly.Similar to Spanish flamenco or Argentinean tango, the unique French cuisine is an intangible UNESCO World Heritage Site. So it is not surprising that the 'Cité internationale de la gastronomie' is to be created by 2023. The aim is to bring all areas of gastronomy under one roof, presenting all professions from agriculture to food processing industries and the culinary arts side by side. In the magnificent premises of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu and the Hôpital de la Charité, a unifying forum will be created that will introduce interested parties to areas such as agriculture, nutrition, health, gastronomy and catering.

Recently, Mik returned from a sea voyage along the spectacular Norwegian coast. The classic postal ship route 'Krystruten', as the eventful sea voyage is called, is world-famous and considered one of Norway's very big attractions. Ships sail along the entire coast between Bergen and Kirkenes all year round. Guests call at 35 charming ports during their twelve-day journey. Mik's suitcase easily found room on board. She found trolley suitcases particularly practical for a cruise, as she could easily roll them down the gangway and through corridors.
A fleet of brand new hybrid ships features environmentally friendly technologies. The ships are powered by liquefied gas, and are additionally equipped with a battery pack. This makes it possible to sail long fjords fully electrically and silently. On board, there are panoramic and lounge areas, a sun deck and awalk-through bow, a sauna and a heated whirlpool on deck, as well as a shop, bar, restaurants and 179 comfortable cabins and suites. What particularly impressed Mik as a gourmand were the delicious dishes. On board, culinary highlights are prepared from regional and seasonal products. The Swiss Made leather clutch Lad is the perfect companion for a glamorous appearance
Superlatives are one thing in themselves, but to experience the entire country of Norway in a single trip on what is probably the most beautiful sea voyage in the world makes every traveller's heart beat faster. During twelve days at sea, Mik experienced picturesque fjord excursions, marvelled at majestic mountain peaks and stopped in tiny fishing villages and cities like Bergen, Ålesund or Trondheim. A visit to Hammerfestwas a prominent waypoint, as this outpost of Norwegian civilization is the northernmost city in the world.
The inquisitive travel bird also visited Tromsø, Norway's capital of the Arctic, and explored the world's northernmost brewery there, among other things. About halfway between Bergen and Kirkenes is the seemingly unreal mountain range of the Seven Sisters. According to a legend, these mountains were formed by seven troll sisters who were caught illegally atsunrise, turned to stone and thus formed the seven peaks, which are up to 1100 metres high. Mik particularly liked the dreamlike Lofoten Islands with their small, colourful villages, steep mountainsides and obvious Viking heritage. The Vesterålen archipelago is characterized by the most beautiful natural landscapes on the entire route. It may be an imaginary line on a world map, but crossing the Arctic Circle was a very special experience for Mik. From here on, the sun does not dip below the horizon in summer, or only for a moment.
The northern part of Norway is sparsely populated, wild, pristine - and simply wonderfully beautiful. From autumn to spring, a unique natural spectacle enchants the sky of an ever-lengthening night in these lonely regions: in the winter half-year, the mystical green aurora borealis dances in the firmament, giving the rugged nature a particularly magical and unforgettable stage set.
Wandering off, being on the road, discovering and experiencing occupies a large place in our travelling hearts. The past two years have shown us this impressively: how we have missed carefree travelling. Fortunately, most countries and regions of Europe are now open to us again, and we can once more live our beloved passion to the full. Pack Easy migratory bird Mik spread his explorer wings this summer and looked around Portugal, Norway, France and Switzerland. Mik returned with a suitcase full of experiences and memories of enriching encounters with cultures and countries, their people and their delicious culinary delights.
Europe's most westerly destination
An adventurous migratory bird, Mik packed the tried and tested hard case for her trip to Portugal, which made a very good trap not only on the plane but also in the rented e-car.
Lisbon is a place of longing and so Mik fell head over heels in love with the Portuguese capital. From the centre of Baixa, the legendary tram line 28 with its original cars from the 1930s leads through the winding alleys of the ancient district of Alfama, past the Miradouro Santa Luzia and the mighty Sé Cathedral. Of course, the historic Belém Tower and the Elevador de Santa Justa are not to be missed. Portugal's most famous lift connects the lower town with Bairro Alto, the upper town. The neo-Gothic style tower is 45 metres high and quite simply unique.
Culinary-wise, Lisbon is like a land of milk and honey. Countless restaurants, cafés, bars and markets serve up a beguiling selection. The world-famous Pastéis de Nata are a must-try. The delicious puff pastry cakes with vanilla custard have sweetened everyday Portuguese life for hundreds of years and are available everywhere in the city.
The Douro is the third longest river on the Iberian Peninsula and rises in the Spanish province of Soria. It flows for 213 kilometres in Portugal from Barca d'Alva westwards to Porto, where it flows into the Atlantic. The region at the headwaters of the Douro is home to the oldest wine-growing region in the world. Grapes have beencultivated there for several thousand years, including fruit for the world-famous Port wine. The region with its countless terraced vineyards is oneof the most beautiful cultivated landscapes in the world and can be easily explored by rental car. During the grape harvest in October, countless festivals take place where you can taste the delicious wines from the region.
Particularly worth seeing is the small village of Pinhão with its railway station decorated with azulejos - blue and white ceramic tiles. Since 1815, the name Quinta de la Rosahas stood for first-class wine. At the winery near Pinhão, guests and connoisseurs have access not only to the wine cellar but also to an excellent restaurant, a microbrewery and charming guest rooms. Mik enjoyed her stay at the winery to the fullest.
As the second largest city, Porto is like a motley summary of Portugal. While it is a vibrant metropolis, it also exudes a leisurely and relaxed atmosphere. The hilly old town is best explored on foot, as views of the river valley cut deep into the rock or the countless bridges crossing the Douro open up everywhere. Oppositethe centre is the narrow suburb of Vila Nova de Gaia with its cobbled streets. Under the hunched tiled roofs of time-honoured merchants' houses are stored precious stocks of port wine, the great treasure of Porto. Here, wineries invite visitors to tours and tastings. The Douro River flows through the middle of the city, where old wine transport ships set off on round trips. A few kilometres downstream, Atlantic beaches invite you to swim and surf, while Portugal's culinary diversity is served up in countless restaurants, bars and markets.
Porto is good to explore during a weekend trip. Mik, however, stopped for a few enjoyable days at the end of her Portugal trip, and was already making next travel plans: someday she will pack her hard shell suitcase again and return.
It's not just mental work that gets us where we want to go; sometimes it's better to simply use your hands and immerse yourself in the here and now. So get away from the screen. The computer is good for getting your ideas into shape, but it also brings out the uptight perfectionist in us.
Over time, our own thoughts can become restrictive and hinder our creativity. We are then stuck in an endless loop. The brain gets used to what surrounds us every day and so it can easily become routine and ultimately lead to mental congestion and mental frustration. That's why it's better to distance yourself from your familiar surroundings from time to time than to always stay in the same rut. So pack your weekender and treat yourself to a change of scenery - after all, sometimes knowledge is simply in the distance.
Spring cleaning and tidying up means cleaning and creating space - both spatially and for new thoughts and ideas. When everyone is at home and we can hardly find any peace and quiet for ourselves, we should take an active break. In other words, simply take a courageous break for an hour and go for a walk on your own, taking in the landscape and the spring awakening. If you can't get out, enjoy some time out in the bathtub or pamper yourself with music and a great book. You are sure to have more than one exciting book next to your bed that has been waiting to be read for a long time.
It's the same picture everywhere: on the train, at the bus stop, in the café. People stare at their screens and no longer notice the real world because of all the digital distractions. It's every man for himself. Interpersonal, social and communicative habits are increasingly being lost. The feeling of having to be constantly available and not wanting to miss anything leads to constant use of and dependence on the online world.
It's time to simply switch off for a while and slow down. To do a digital detox. A detox from digital permanence. No smartphone, no laptop, no tablet.
Consciously taking a break from being online all the time is a sensible thing that everyone should consider. With these 5 tips for the offline and online world, you can achieve a digital detox:
The unit used to indicate the strength of places of power is called Bovis. Defined by a commuter who determines the intensity of an energy field. Do we have to measure or even commute if we intuitively feel good in a place? "I didn't feel anything, but it was so beautiful." This is how it sounds when we talk about a powerful place. What is certain is that there are places in this world whose beauty makes our hearts soar; that bring the mind to the edge of understanding and that soothe the eye and calm the pulse. These moments of power, in which we consciously feel well-being and which enchant us without any hocus-pocus, are worth discovering. These tips are the discoveries of the Pack Easy crew.
You don't need to travel far to find small places of power. The passage of the Little Emme is a symbol of life. It shows how a calmly flowing body of water has to overcome temporary obstacles and can become turbulent in the process. But enriched with oxygen and new insights, it can continue on its way as a calm body of water. Sometimes it is an invitation to accept the stillness and slow down the pace so that positive things can emerge.
With every breath we take, we are a part of nature. Even living in the city, far away from a pristine landscape, does not change this. Old trees are surrounded by a magical spell. Their aura radiates far beyond their crown. The oak grove, Witwald near Wildenstein Castle, is one of the few preserved medieval cultural landscapes. Just imagine: When the oldest oaks began to grow on Wildenstein, Columbus was not even underway on his Santa Maria. If that's not a reason to admire these monuments.
An exciting book recommendation on the life of old trees: "The secret life of trees" by Peter Wohlleben.

Anyone strolling through the neighborhood early in the morning will catch a glimpse of laptops in the children's room through brightly lit windows, flat screens on the kitchen table, pens, paper and charging cables between coffee cups and glasses of water.
But what does a home office actually have to be? Beautiful, comfortable, functional or always available? That's what the Pack Easy migratory bird is pondering. Because what the local sparrows are whistling from the rooftops has been carried all the way to beautiful South Africa and leaves our smart feathered friend no peace.
Forced or voluntary, never before have we spent so much time in our living spaces. Cocooning is the name given to this trend of withdrawing completely into the private sphere, of spending time at home as a leisure activity. The focus is on comfort. But if you're thinking of baggy sweaters, tracksuit bottoms and laptops on the bedside table, you're mistaken. While this is undeniably comfortable, sooner or later it inevitably leads to a certain lethargy that acts like poison on an already depressed mood and spreads to all family members.
We know how to stop that! Because the Pack Easy migratory bird knows all about cramped conditions in the nest at home and lots of hungry mouths to feed. And he knows that tidiness is the be-all and end-all of successful cocooning. If you can quickly and neatly organize things lying around, you can turn the dining table into a functional workspace in no time at all and create a beautifully laid table for the family snack break.

Buying an ergonomic desk for every member of the family, plus perfectly coordinated chairs and lights, is impossible for most of us and not something we want! After all, we are proud of our cozy living room! However, thanks to ongoing mobility restrictions, the travel account may have a surplus and finance a few little helpers with which we can set up a well-organized workspace. And if we swap cardboard boxes and plastic folders for elegant leather accessories, work will be twice as much fun! The notepad and laptop are also wrapped in elegant writing cases, the charging station has a cell phone holder and the rest of the small items disappear into our smart pocket emptiers. In no time at all, we can create an environment in which ideas are born and work comes easily to us. And the accessories can do so much more!
The Pack Easy home office set is not just practical and pretty to look at. Combined with the right bag or a spacious rucksack, all of your utensils can be transformed into a mobile office in an instant. Don't forget your wallet, keys and FeelSafe mask set and you're ready for a quick trip back to work if you have a customer appointment or need to work from home.

Fortunately, the obligation to work from home not only brings restrictions, but also allows us unimagined freedoms. It has never been so easy to escape the dull days of February. Because as long as the laptop travels with us, we can leave the fog behind and let the sun shine on our noses in the mountains. We carry our workspace in one bag and our clothes, winter shoes and make-up bag in the other. The stylish weekender has room for everything you need for a few days in your second office.
The leather accessories and bags from Pack Easy are extremely robust and durable, they are designed to be packed and unpacked for many years and will become loyal companions on our travels, whether for business or pleasure. We creatures are less constant and that is why not only the Pack Easy migratory bird flies south year after year to soak up the sun, but every little break from the dull everyday life of the pandemic also acts as a source of energy for us.

At the end of this unusual period of staying at home, we find ourselves with dusty suitcases and expired passports. And if we did book a flight, it is rebooked or even cancelled. Countries open and close their borders in time with the pandemic, and entry, return and certificate regulations vary from country to country and city to city, making even experienced globetrotters' heads spin. Today, we shed some light on the subject, so that you can once again explore the world without a care in the world and your dusty suitcase shines in new splendour.
Do you know the feeling of sitting helplessly in front of an empty suitcase? In your head the almost unsolvable question of the right clothes, appropriate footwear and the necessary travelling companions. And how heavy can the suitcase be again?
Packing a suitcase - What to consider?
But what do the Russian wooden dolls have to do with travel? They're the inspiration for the Bag-in-Bag principle, a way to stay organized and pack suitcases in no time. Use practical travel organisers in different sizes, shoe bags and Necessaires for checked luggage; document folders, laptop sleeves and transparent cosmetic bags for hand luggage. Coordinate your travel luggage so that the carry-on suitcase fits into the checked luggage or the handbag fits into the cabin trolley, and nothing will stand in the way of an extensive shopping weekend!
With the benefit of making the whole world feel a little cleaner; but also with a number of stipulations that you really need to be aware of before you travel. Because due to the current epidemic situation, every country can change its entry regulations at short notice! Find out in advance from the BAG and the embassy of your destination country about the validity of your certificate, mask or certificate requirements and any quarantine regulations.

Whoever regularly vapes naturally does not want to do without their e-cigarette and the corresponding liquids on holidays. Most airlines allow e-cigarettes to be carried in hand luggage or on the body, but not in checked luggage. See the rules on liquids at L for liquids.
The loss of spontaneity, the unfamiliar jungle of regulations and the ubiquitous mask may have spoiled many a travel bug. Don't let that put you off. Short breaks are the key to fresh energy! Big budget, small budget, two days or ten days, foreign or domestic - travel broadens our horizons and is enriching for mind and body.
This measurement corresponds to the guideline specified by IATA, which determines whether a piece of luggage is classified as checked luggage or excess luggage. It is calculated from the height + width + length of the piece of luggage. Suitcases, backpacks and bags that do not exceed or exactly meet the 158 cm measurement may be checked in as checked baggage.
Carry-on luggage has to meet particularly high standards. It must be handy, lightweight, fit in the hand luggage compartment, have lockable internal compartments, allow bag-in-bag and look smart at the same time. Most airlines allow one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 8 kg, which fits in the overhead compartment, and a personal handbag or backpack to be stowed under the front seat. Our small and extra small cabin trolleys from the Art Collection are the perfect size and can be combined with a stylish leather bag from the Swiss Made collection.

In the category "Europe's Leading Airports", Zurich has been the undefeated leader since 2004. All over the world, airports have long since ceased to be check-in halls and have become places to linger, shop, eat and breathe the air of travel. Incheon International Airport in Korea even hosts classical concerts, Munich Airport invites waiting passengers to stroll through the Christmas market, Dubai International Airport runs its own health club with a pool and express massages, and Singapore Changi Airport has huge green spaces to discover and even its own cinema. For architecture fans, airport hopping is even worthwhile as a holiday of a different kind, because the new airports are real eye-candy made of steel, glass, bamboo and other fine woods.
You've already met the Babushka and, of course, the purpose of the trip will determine the contents of your suitcase. However, a few tips apply to all trips, whether short or long, air, rail or car, smaller or XXL suitcases: Stow heavy items like coats, shoes or books at the very bottom of the suitcase and fill the gaps between the bulky items with small items of clothing such as socks or underwear. Towels, toiletries and other items that don't wrinkle easily are suitable for the middle layer. Fill the gaps with handkerchiefs, rolled-up belts or similar items. On top of the bag are easily wrinkled clothes such as shirts, blouses or dresses. It's best to roll them up loosely before packing so they don't wrinkle. Don't forget: The Pack Easy Travel Organizer will protect your clothes from dirt and bruises and make it easier to pack and unpack them at your destination!
Travelling with hand luggage only - how to pack properly
The English term for liquids is familiar to every air traveller, as for some years now the carrying of liquids in hand luggage has been restricted to the maximum amount of 1 litre per person in 100 ml vials. The transparent Clear Cosmetic Bags from Pack Easy comply exactly with IATA guidelines and ensure that you can see through your hand luggage. Note: If you are carrying a sustainable water bottle, you are allowed to carry it as long as it does not contain any liquid during the security check!
Sometimes they are personal in nature, sometimes they come from a travel guide, Instagram or the insider tips of friends or locals. In check-in luggage include medicines, jewellery and personal items such as IDs, travel documents, credit cards or even braces. Because should a suitcase get lost, these individual items cannot be replaced. The elegant leather handbags and weekender from our Swiss Made are equipped with numerous inner and outer compartments so that you can always carry all your important things with you.
That's why it's important to consider not only the dimensions of the seatbelts, but also the weight of each piece of luggage. IATA prescribes a weight limit of 23 kg per checked bag, with an upper limit of 32 kg. Excess weight is charged extra per kilo and can quickly become expensive on a long-haul flight. So check the weight of your luggage and your airline's regulations before checking in.
Not only do they make a great gift, but they also ensure a quick recognition effect on the luggage carousel. Multi-city travel is one of the supreme disciplines for travellers. The foresighted choice of luggage, means of transport and itinerary decides to a large extent on the comfort and recreational value of the trip. Checklists, climate tables and travel guides in paper or digital form help with travel planning and protect against unpleasant surprises.
Can lead to unpleasant surprises after your holiday, because making phone calls abroad can be very expensive. Therefore, if possible, use Whatsapp, Skype or similar services that are not billed as telephony but as internet use. Deactivate data roaming in the settings and download films, videos or large files only in the WLAN. Use your mobile phone abroad as a city map or navigation device.
As Switzerland's oldest luggage manufacturer, we deliver our suitcases, trolleys and bags from central Switzerland all over the world. We attach great importance to innovation, sustainability and quality from the workshop to individual advice. 100% Swiss service - 100% travel enjoyment!
- Business or private. To keep your electronic devices protected, our laptop bags and backpacks have padded internal compartments and various external pockets that also keep chargers and headphones safe. Don't forget that an adapter may be needed for charging at your destination, and opt for a travel adapter with USB outlets. This will reduce the number of plugs you need to carry and keep track of your hand luggage.
Even when you're out and about, there are small contributions you can make to sustainability. You can use washable canvas bags for shoes and dirty laundry, wash out zip bags and reuse them, switch from liquid shampoo to solid soap shampoo, repair broken straps and wheels on your suitcase from our Suitcase service, change from disposable masks to high-quality fabric masks and why not spend a few hours walking on the beach and picking up litter.
They are ideal for transporting opened food packaging or easily leaking products such as shampoo or sunscreen and avoiding an unsightly mess in your suitcase. In addition, these bags are super suitable for separating the still damp swimming trunks from the rest of the dirty laundry, because a last jump into the sea or the hotel pool must still be possible shortly before departure!
Inform yourself in advance about the climate and location of your destination and consider how long you will be away. That way you know what you really need or what you can get locally if necessary. Games are available in travel size, many magazine subscriptions are available on the tablet and real bookworms no longer travel without their e-reader. Take only what you need, choose clothes and shoes that you can mix and match, and pack hand wash just in case.
Health and safety are a focus around the world and have become an integral part of travel preparations. But medically certified masks are anything but eye-catching, let alone sustainable. Opt for a sustainable FeelSafe mask set that is produced locally and fairly in beautiful Lucerne. It consists of a replaceable filter mask with matching case made of delicate cotton, washable reusable filters and a hand disinfectant gel, also Swiss Made and of course in travel format.
Such is the case with our brightly coloured Collys. True to the motto "Colour Your Journey", you can design your cabin luggage according to your personal preferences: Striped, patterned or in neon colours, the practical rolling suitcases make an extravagant appearance.
However, back to the daily grind means, unfortunately, unpacking suitcases. But don't forget, the Babushka Principle makes even this unpleasant task easier. And before you stow your luggage away until your next trip, check the wheels, lining and zips for tears and faults. At Pack Easy, we're all about sustainability, which is why we repair your trusty travel companion in our Suitcase Clinic, so they'll be with you for years to come.
From a bird's eye view it becomes clear how Switzerland got its glorious nickname"Water Castle of Europe". Countless rivers and streams meander through meadows and forests, and some 1500 lakes glow dark blue to turquoise green in the summer landscape. Today, the migratory bird from Pack easy takes you on a very special tour de Suisse and reveals where a dip in the cool water is particularly worthwhile.

An excursion to the national capital is worthwhile for many reasons, the Marzili being one of them. Here you can sunbathe on the banks of the Aare with a view of the Federal Parliament building. Probably the best-known open-air swimming pool in Bern, it is only 300 metres from the Swiss parliament building and has large sunbathing lawns, idyllic seating areas directly on the riverbank, a women's section and a family area with a baby pool. From the children's pool to the diving pool or 50-metre pool, visitors are spoilt for choice. And if you are an experienced swimmer and prefer to cool off in the river water, you can walk from Marzili along the banks of the Aare towards Eichholz and let yourself be carried back by the current. And the best thing about it: admission to the beautiful city pool is free for everyone.
The historic lakeside resort of Lucerne was built in 1884-1885 by Lucerne architect Heinrich Victor von Segesser and rebuilt countless times in its 100-year history. Since 2010 it has been resplendent in its current splendour, but still exudes the charm of the Belle Epoque. Two swimming pools in the centre forms excluded courtyards surrounded by simple changing rooms. Those who prefer to swim in the lake enjoy an unobstructed view of the local mountain Pilatus and the surrounding mountains. In addition to travellers and day-trippers, the unique wooden lake bath attracts city dwellers seeking refreshment from their offices and homes, who cavort on the deck until the cool evening hours and end the day with Caribbean drinks.
For over 140 years, the Rhybadi Schaffhausen has been located on the banks of the Rhine, making it the oldest box bath in Switzerland. The historic river bath has been renovated countless times with respect for the original architecture. Visitors fall for the unique charm of the wooden loungers, river pools and colourful parasols. Those who lie here enjoy not only their holiday reading, but also the view of passing ducks and swans and the lush greenery of the opposite bank of the Rhine. Part of the ship-like construction is equipped with an intermediate floor, so swimmers and non-swimmers can let themselves drift along the Rhine - with a unique view of the Munot. The city's landmark is also in view for those who attend the early morning yoga classes or drop in late at night for a concert or after-work swim.
The Mythenquai lido is located between the Zurich districts of Wollishofen and Enge at the gates of Switzerland's largest city. The best way to get there is to take the boat from Bürkliplatz to Enge harbour and then walk along the lake. The white turnstile cannot be missed and leads its visitors directly into the bathing paradise:Sprawling, green sunbathing lawns with mighty, shade-giving trees and a breathtaking mountain panorama in the distance make for a dreamy holiday setting. The 250-metre-long sandy beach, the green-blue lake and the coast glistening in the sun on the other shore transport you involuntarily to faraway lands. Thanks to the diving tower and various fins, table tennis, ping-pong,stand-up paddle rental, book boxes, yoga classes and a spacious children'swimming area with playground, the whole family can spend a relaxing holiday here.
Swimming in the crystal-clear Maggia with its washed-out stone formations, fed by mountain lakes, is a highlight of any holiday in Ticino. A bathing spot is where visitors loll in the sun on the hot stones. But those who prefer the calmer waters and simply want to feel sand between their toes again will find a small but fine beach idyll near the suspension bridge north of Avegno that invites the whole family to linger. And if you are tired of swimming, Avegno is an extremely picturesque Ticino village where you can indulge in "dolce far niente" to your heart's content.
The Lorelei bathing islands are located in the Reuss delta
on the Lake of Uri off Altdorf and can be easily reached by boat, train or car
from Flüelen or by Tell bus from nearby Lucerne. Most of the delta is a nature
reserve where you can observe a wide variety of flora and fauna. In the midst
of this wonderful nature, however, there is also a touch of South Sea feeling.
The three bathing islands were filled with material from the Gotthard Base
Tunnel and are about the size of a football field. Here you can enjoy your
time-out on wonderfully sandy ground - but beware: to enjoy the islands, you
have to swim across. Or you can paddle into paradise in a rubber boat or air
mattress. Incidentally, the area around the Lorelei is well equipped with
picnic spots, barbecue areas and children's playgrounds.
Lake Cauma is an oasis of well-being in the
middle of the coniferous forests of Flims. Although the "Pearl of the
Alps", as Lake Cauma is also called, is located in Graubünden, visitors
like to think they are in foreign climes. The turquoise to deep blue mountain
water, in which the house-high spruces are reflected, and the lively interplay
of sun and shade lend the mountain lake something mysterious and at the same
time calming.
The full splendour of the lake paradise is
revealed to visitors on the walk around the mountain lake. All along the shore,
beautiful beaches invite you to linger and a small mysterious island awaits you
to be explored by swimming or by boat or pedalo. Visitors can also get active
playing volleyball or stand-up paddling.
Thanks to the underground feed and the wind-protected location, Lake Cauma reaches temperatures of up to 24 degrees Celsius, wonderful temperatures for a summer bathing experience in a class of its own!
The charming island of Ogoz is ideal for adventurers young and old. Two castle ruins are waiting to be discovered by visitors, while lakeside barbecue areas and shady trees create small secluded spots for long summer days of swimming fun. When the water level is low, the small island in Lake Gruyère becomes a peninsula and can even be visited on foot if the lake level is below 668 metres. Otherwise, a boat shuttle takes guests to the island and shortens the crossing with fairytale stories about the dilapidated castle and the St-Théodule chapel.
The chive island, which is only 80 metres long and 20 metres wide, lies 320 metres from the shore in the middle of Lake Walen. The wild island, whose name immediately stings the nose of every visitor, is only accessible to the public by boat and is swallowed up by the depths of the lake when the water is high.On the island is a mysterious letterbox, a kind of message in a bottle from visitor to visitor with reports of their island adventures. A BBQ on Chive Island is just the thing for those who prefer to indulge in summer pleasures far away from the bathing crowds and sandy beaches

The blossoming wanderlust is literally noticeable, cannot be saddened even at the sight of dusty luggage, and dented suitcases. Nevertheless, we feel like new-born and want to carry this radiance also outward. But simply throwing away a faithful companion? That goes against the spirit of the times and any nostalgia, and gnaws at our guilty conscience.
Suitcase clinic instead of landfill site
With a bit of luck, your suitcase carries a Pack Easy label. The little migratory bird from central Switzerland has been committed to sustainability for years and stands for particularly durable luggage with a guarantee of up to six years. Small damages, defective wheels or handles are repaired by the professionals in the Pack Easy luggage clinic in no time and let your suitcases shine in new splendour. And if the good piece has really reached the end of its life or you simply want something new, then simply bring your used suitcase with you, have the old thing recycled and meanwhile choose your new travel companions.
From
recycling to upcycling
If you're
flying over the Pack Easy store these days, you'll catch a glimpse of some
bright splashes of colour in the dreary gray of the rainy month of May. Bright
pink and blood red blooming dipladenia are blooming. A flower bed on concrete
pavement? Why not! Thinks Marion Klein, who has created a place to dream for
herself and her employees with her colourful flowered break area. The owner of
Pack Easy loves to break new ground and puts her ideas into practice with
passion. She has an eye for the beautiful things in life, but that doesn’t means
you have to dispose of everything "old" right away? Is it possible to
give discarded objects a second life? Together with the enthusiastic florist
Priska Isenschmied from the “Atelier für Blumen” in Lucerne, she got to the
bottom of this question - with convincing results!
In just a
few steps, the two of them conjured up a beautiful mini-garden out of old
suitcase shells. Thus, the faithful piece of luggage adorns balconies, terraces
or even extensive gardens and now the best: Almost forgotten travel memories
experience a second spring!
How it
works
In these 5
steps you transform your worn-out piece of luggage into a blooming sea of
plants:
1. if
desired, separate the two halves of the suitcase and remove any wheels
2. cut out
the inner lining
3. fill one
or both suitcase shells with sufficient soil
4. plant
your desired flowers or herbs in it
5. provide
moderate watering and regular fertilizing
Now make
sure you choose the right location in terms of sunlight and what seems old will
shine like new.

The car is filled up and loaded, the journey can begin. But is the toothbrush really in the suitcase? It's better to check again quickly. The good thing is found in no time, but once the suitcase has been rummaged through, it's not so easy to close it. So you take out your hiking boots, throw them on top and throw in a liter or two of water, because who knows how long the trip will last. Favorite book? Charging cable? Provisions? You guessed it, this game can be repeated countless times. When the journey finally starts, the mood is often at rock bottom!
Shaking his head, the Pack Easy migratory bird watches the dizzying back and forth. But it's not that difficult! With a little system, even the inexperienced packer can make a stress-free and relaxed start to the holidays.
Bag in Bag - packing in Babushka principle
In the Pack Easy Homeoffice-Collection you will find lots of little helpers that make packing your suitcase a child's play.
Do you remember the small, brightly painted wooden dolls, in whose thick bellies a slightly smaller version always appears? If you pack your suitcases according to the Babushka principle, you'll keep things tidy at all times and keep an overview even after any search attacks. How the home office becomes a mobile office, and how you can easily add a long weekend? Find out in the last blog of Pack Easy.
Today we want to pack the big suitcases and go to a well-deserved holiday somewhere in the Alps.
For T-shirts, shirts, blouses or shoes are suitable travel organizers in all sizes and shapes. Shampoo, sunscreen, toothpaste and other hygiene products are in small transparent cosmetic bags to see them easier from the outside, and make sure, nothing was forgotten. Small gaps between the various bags can be stuffed with socks or rolled-up jeans, so that nothing is flung back and forth on the trip.
Safe on the road with travel tips from the TCS professionals
THe suitcases are packed and we face the next challenge. How do you safely stow suitcases, bags and sports equipment in the trunk? Even Pack Easy migratory bird is clueless and seeks advice from the professionals at the Touring Club Switzerland. And the first hint from the car travel experts creates a certain "aha" effect! Because who keeps warning vest and breakdown triangle under a heavy suitcase load, will not reach it easily anymore. They belong in the glove compartment or side compartment, just like vehicle documents and identification papers. Heavy suitcases and bags should be placed at the bottom of the luggage and as close to the backrest as possible. Lighter bags and items are placed on top, but should not be stacked higher than the backrest. A tie-down strap provides additional security and prevents luggage from flying through the car during an emergency stop. Do not leave the water bottles mentioned for boarding lying around loose under any circumstances, because even a PET bottle becomes a deadly projectile in the event of emergency braking at low speed! Where children and pets are travelling along, further precautions must of course be taken. But now our two travellers are finally ready and start their road trip happy and confident.
Convenient storage miracle with electric drive
As Confucius once said: The journey is the destination! And Switzerland as a travel destination really has a lot to offer. Winding mountain passes, picturesque landscapes, views over lakes and mountains. It's worth leaving the highway for a while and driving through awakening nature and remote villages. In the all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge, we drive safely, dynamically and almost silently through the countryside and look out for a nice spot for a first spring picnic. Not only the driver, but also the body and soul enjoy little rest breaks.
Such a road trip is a perfect mix of romance and nostalgia and should definitely be savoured to the fullest. Our travellers also look for of a cosy place to spend the night, where they can not only recharge their batteries, but also recharge the batteries of their electric car. Of course, this won't take a whole night, but it's s a much more comfortable option than staying next to the charging station at the gas station.
Turning the fully packed trunk upside down during a stopover? No way! The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a true storage miracle, because where the engine usually is located, there's room for a Weekender, and with just one move to grab the bag, our travellers disappear happily into the hotel lobby.
Arrive relaxed
After a restful night at the hotel and a lovely breakfast, the journey can continue and after a few hours our travellers finally reach their holiday destination. Thanks to the orderliness of the trunk, unloading is again easy. The bag with the groceries is already in the kitchen, the mobile home office is brought into the living room, the suitcase into the bedroom and the sports equipment is neatly stored in the garage. Clothes are also tucked away in wardrobes and drawers in no time at all, because the practical travel organizers allow underwear, T-shirts and sportswear to be stored directly in the wardrobe. Pants and shirts are hung over hangers, the Weekender disappears into the empty suitcase and is pushed under the bed until departure. Stressed from the trip, unloading or unpacking suitcases? Not at all! While our travellers stroll through their resort and make plans for the next day, the Pack Easy migratory bird dreams of its own next trip.

If you stroll through the neighbourhood early in the morning, you catch a glimpse of laptops in the children's room through brightly lit windows, flat screens on the kitchen table, pens, paper and charging cables between coffee cups and water glasses.
But what does a home office actually have to be? Beautiful, comfortable, functional or constantly available? That's what Pack Easy's migratory bird is thinking about.
Forced or voluntary, never before have we spent so much time in our living spaces. Cocooning is the name of this trend of complete withdrawal into the private sphere, of spending time at home as a leisure activity. Coziness is at the center of it. But far be it from anyone who now thinks of baggy sweaters, trainer pants and laptops on the nightstand. While this is undeniably comfortable, sooner or later it inevitably brings to light a certain lethargy that acts like poison on the already stricken mood and spreads to all family members. We know how to stop that! Because the Pack Easy migratory bird knows all about tight conditions in the home nest and many hungry mouths to feed. And he knows that order is the be-all and end-all of successful cocooning. If you can quickly and neatly tidy up the things lying around, you can turn the dining table into a functional workplace in no time at all and create a nicely laid table for the family snack break.
Discover our home office products "Mobile at Home" for men and women.
The purchase of an ergonomic desk for each member of the family, plus optimally matched chairs and lights, this is impossible for most of us, and not wanted! After all, we are proud of our homey living room! But thanks to persistent mobility restrictions, perhaps the travel account will register a surplus and finance a few little helpers with which we can set up an uncluttered workspace. And if we replace cardboard boxes and plastic folders with fine leather accessories, work becomes twice as much fun! Even notepads and laptops are wrapped in elegant writing cases, the charging station gets a cell phone holder, and the rest of the odds and ends disappear into our chic pocket organizers. In no time at all, we create an environment where ideas are born and work comes easily to us. And the accessories can do much more!
The Pack Easy home office set is not only practical and pretty to look at. Combined with the right bag or a spacious backpack, all utensils can be transformed into a mobile office in no time. Don't forget your wallet, keys, and FeelSafe mask set, and you're ready for a quick trip back to work when a customer appointment comes up or when home office duties are relaxed.
Discover our home office products - "Away from Home" for men and women.
Fortunately, the home office duty does not only bring restrictions, but also allows us unexpected freedoms. It has never been so easy to escape the gloomy days of February. Because as long as the laptop travels with us, we're allowed to leave the fog line behind and let the sun shine on our noses in the mountains. In one bag the workplace, in the other clothes, winter shoes and cosmetic bag. In the stylish Weekender there is room for everything you need for a few days in the second office.
Pack Easy leather accessories and bags are extremely robust and durable, they are made to be packed and unpacked for many years and become loyal companions to us on our travels, professional or private. We creatures are less durable and therefore not only the Pack Easy migratory bird flies year after year to the south to soak up the sun, but also on us every little break from the dreary pandemic everyday life acts like a source of energy.

Sights and natural spectacles such as Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, Stellenbosch, colorful townships or safari adventures are emblematic of South Africa. The country lives from these places and their magical attraction for travelers from all over the world. But we want to wander off the beaten track for a while, because other parts of South Africa also offer real insider tips. The Kosi Bay Nature Reserve in the northeast of the country is one of them. The nature reserve includes swamps and lakes that are supplied with salt water from the Indian Ocean by a series of canals. The unique climate in the reserve provides a home for countless bird species, and colorful, exotic fish live in the crystal-clear waters between graceful coral reefs - a true paradise for snorkelers and ornithologists. At the best time to travel, i.e. around the turn of the year, another natural spectacle can be observed. On the beaches of Bhanga Nek, huge turtles crawl to their nesting sites on the beach, where they lay their eggs untouched by prying eyes. The hatching is then done by the warmth of the sun, before the little clumsy turtles make their way through the beach into the water about 60 days later.
Dream beaches as far as the eye can see
But it is not only on the beaches of KwaZulu-Natal that animals mingle with the human sun worshippers. Boulders Beach in Simon's Town, for example, is home to more than 3,000 spectacled penguins, at Dolphin Beach, as the name suggests, you can catch a glimpse of dolphins jumping between surfers and bathers, and the path to "The Island" beach in the Robberg Nature Reserve leads past a seal colony.
Whether on the Indian Ocean or the Atlantic, in South Africa dream beaches are lined up one after the other, leaving behind the agony of choice. Muizenberg belongs to the most popular bathing beaches, the most beautiful view of Table Mountain is offered by Blouberg Beach, the rich and beautiful cavort in Camps Bay, Grotto Beach belongs to the cleanest beaches, Chintsa Beach becomes a retreat for those seeking peace and quiet and the windsurfers cavort with the dolphins at Dolphin Beach in Jeffreys Bay.
Picturesque panoramic road
Port Elizabeth is also called "The Windy City" and is an industrial city on the southeast coast of the country. However, the city on the Indian Ocean is better known as the destination or starting point of the picturesque Garden Route. The panoramic road leads through a seemingly endless abundance of landscapes to the town of Mossel Bay just outside Cape Town. Rolling hills, rocky coastlines, virgin forests and endless desert steppes regularly amaze travelers.
But not only the view over the country is gigantic, the huge nature reserves also invite to walks, canoe trips, whale watching or mountain bike tours. One of the most beautiful places on the Garden Route is the Tsitsikamma National Park, a piece of untouched wilderness with deep gorges, impenetrable vegetation and harsh winds. It is home to the nearly 65-year-old, 192-meter-long Storms River Suspension Bridge, which spans the river of the same name. A forerunner of masterful engineering, but we already feel a little queasy on the shaky construction. Another highlight in Tsitsikamma Park is the 800 year old Yellowwood tree called "Big Tree", with its 8.5 meters diameter and 27 meters height a gigantic masterpiece of nature.
Glamping among elephants and baobab trees
After so many impressions, we long for some time off beyond the bustling cities and streets. We want to experience South Africa up close and personal and still feel pampered all around. Glamping offers us this unique opportunity to be incomparably close to nature while enjoying it in style. Safari lodges in Africa pioneered the phenomenon of glamping, which masterfully combines camping with luxury and glamour.
A wonderful example of this is Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Nature Reserve in the northwest of the country. An oasis of tranquility where elephants, rhinos, giraffes, lions and other predators can be seen. If you wish, you can spend a romantic night under the starry sky of South Africa and indulge in a delicious breakfast.Speaking of luxury and glamour, the Pack Easy Swiss Made Weekender is a stylish, faithful companion, for the road trip or even in the steppes of Africa.

Cape Town - city of contrasts
Among the largest cities in South Africa are Johannesburg and Cape Town, but which one is the capital? That is a question that is not so easy to answer. The seat of government is in Pretoria, the court is in Bloemfontein and the parliament is in Cape Town. Consequently, South Africa has not one but three capitals vying for prominence and visitors. But the most popular city and one of the most beautiful in the world remains Cape Town. Here, between the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain, breathtaking landscapes, historic sites, delicious treats, fine wines and unforgettable adventures collide.
Strolling through the center of Cape Town, you'll pass Victorian townhouses, modern skyscrapers, hip cafes and street markets. And every now and then, a monument, a street or building name reminds you of Nelson Mandela. The freedom fighter was imprisoned on Robben Island for many years. Today, the former prison island is on UNESCO's World Heritage List, and Mandela's fight against oppression and social injustice is considered a trailblazer for the peaceful end of apartheid. Those who want to delve deeper into the dark history of apartheid can let themselves be initiated into the island's dark secrets on a guided tour of the former prison.
Afrikanische Kultur
Masks, sculptures or jewelry made of wood and stones are popular collectibles among art lovers and tourists. If you want to buy really authentic and African-made art, you have to take a closer look especially at flea markets and street stalls, because mass-produced goods from China are often offered here. High-quality African handicrafts, on the other hand, can be found at the Craft Market on the Waterfront, a real highlight for collectors and art lovers.
Cape Town also has a lot to offer in the way of culinary delights. Kloof Street is one of the hottest nightlife areas with beautiful Victorian buildings and charming street cafés. We are particularly fond of the Kloof Street House, the stately building enchants with Victorian decor, fresh and beautifully served food, colorful cocktails and live jazz music. Visitors feel like they're in a fairy tale at Bar Asoka, where you can feast comfortably on colorful cushions under fairy lights. South African cuisine is varied, contains lots of meat and vegetables, and is influenced by Indian and Asian flavors.https://www.kloofstreethouse.co.za/

Treacherous cliffs and flying Dutchmen
Freshly fortified, we set off for the last highlight of our trip. The Cape of Good Hope is a legendary place, many sailors are said to have disappeared here, many ships capsized on the treacherous cliffs. The most famous is probably the legendary ghost ship "Flying Dutchman", whose Dutch captain swore to sail around the Cape of Good Hope even in stormy weather and otherwise to sail on until doomsday. He failed, and since then has been a legend. More than 3000 shipwrecks are said to lie on the seabed here, and those who dare to walk the Shipwreck Trail through the rough rocks can even spot one or the other wreck that has run aground.
The Cape is often referred to as the southernmost point in Africa, but this honor belongs to Cape Alguhas, which lies a little further east and is not only the southernmost point, but is also considered in many places to be the official dividing line between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

Where history comes alive
The Kingdom of Jordan is an Arab state, about the size of our neighboring country Austria. It is regarded as an anchor of stability in a crisis-ridden region and is governed by a very progressive and western thinking royal family. Already in the Bible, Jordan played an important role as the scene of countless stories and traditions. Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have died, is still of the highest religious significance. From up here, visitors have a spectacular view over the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea to Israel.
Only a few kilometers away is the historic city of Madaba. Here you will find a 2000 year old crypt with a legendary mosaic map, which is supposed to represent a 1500 year old map of today's Palestine. It was discovered at the end of the 19th century during the construction of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George and is one of the oldest pieces of ancient cartography. According to calculations, approximately 2.3 million stones were used for the mosaic, which measures approximately 15 m x 6 m. Today about a quarter of the original is preserved - an impressive proof of the artistic skills of our ancestors and not only worth a visit for those interested in the Bible.
If you want to experience history at first hand, Jordan is the right place for you, because many peoples have left their traces here. Among the best preserved archaeological sites from Roman times are the sites around the provincial city of Jerash. For fascinating insights into the past and an entertaining walk between magnificent columns, temple complexes or through the impressive Southern Theater, a guide is recommended, who is happy to share his profound knowledge with visitors.
Modern metropolis in a historical setting
The Jordanian capital Amman lies embedded in a hilly landscape. Around two million inhabitants live in today's financial metropolis, where traditional and historic buildings nestle shoulder to shoulder with ultra-modern high-rise buildings.
We start our city stroll in downtown. Amidst residential buildings lies the Roman Theater, where gladiator fights once captivated thousands of visitors. For some years now, the Amman Opera Festival has been held here, attracting international artists and audiences to Jordan. A few steps away we stroll over the old bazaar and browse among water pipes, sand paintings and perfume imitations for small trouvailles as a souvenir of our journey. If you are looking for a real piece of jewelry, we recommend a visit to the Gold Bazaar (Souk el-Sagha) around King Faisal Street. Watches and gold jewelry in all shapes shine and shimmer in the store windows of the stores where many young designers once started out. Don't forget to haggle in any case - because what may seem obtrusive to us is part of good manners here and is also incredibly fun!
There are many young artists living in Amman who proudly carry on the handicraft tradition of their ancestors and in some places add a modern twist. The First Circle Amman neighborhood and Rainbow Street are especially famous for cultural institutions, galleries, antiques and cozy cafés for short breaks. While we admire the filigree potteries, handmade soaps and colorful mosaic tiles, our eyes are also constantly drawn to impressive murals and graffiti that transform the dreary facades into pieces of jewelry.

Eco-tourism and sustainability
The rural exodus has also reached Jordan, but countless Bedouins still live in the country, 95 % of whose land is covered by desert. Resources, politics, economy - life for the Bedouin is becoming harder and harder and their habitat and culture must be protected. With this in mind, the Wild Jordan Center in Amman was created, an eco-tourism project with an attached boutique hotel, restaurant and meeting place for families and a small store, where natural products from the reserves protected by the founding organization are sold. The aim of the center is to generate income for the rural communities in Jordan. If you are interested in a very special and unique experience in different reserves, book a tailor-made tour here. But the Wild Jordan Center is not only a role model in modern eco-tourism, from up here you simply have a breathtaking view over the old town and the citadel of Amman.
Enjoy with all senses
The sense of community is in the foreground throughout the Orient. Everywhere young and old live and celebrate, always accompanied by expansive buffets with seductive delicacies. A Jordanian family festival is always a feast for the senses and often lasts several days.
The upscale Abdoun district of Amman is one of the most popular places to eat out. Here you will find bars, clubs and restaurants where concerts are regularly held. And there are places that combine all this. For example, the Blue Fig, a cultural meeting place where guests are pampered from early in the morning until late at night with market-fresh dishes that skilfully blend Western cuisine with Oriental cuisine.
As in Istanbul or Tel Aviv, people in Jordan often like to eat mezze and drink sweet black tea with mint. Desserts in the Arab world are also a touch sweeter than ours. For example, baklava or knafeh, sweet pastries with nuts and honey, which are often soaked in rosewater syrup.
Those who are not satisfied with the pleasure alone may try themselves on the stove. In the Nabataean ruined city of Petra, a cook and a housewife give an insight into typical Jordanian cuisine. They cook together and traditionally also eat together.

A somewhat different wellness experience
Wellness in the desert? Doesn't sound very tempting at first. A bath in the Dead Sea or the view of a hot spring is more promising. After a short drive we reach Hammamat Ma'in, the hyperthermal waterfalls are located in a green oasis, 264 meters below sea level. The mineral-rich water of the rainy winter of the highland plains flows through underground lava rock and is heated to 40 to 60 degrees Celsius until it reaches the 109 springs in the valley.
We follow the water through the breathtaking desert landscape to the Dead Sea, where we treat ourselves to one of the most luxurious outdoor SPA programs. The Dead Sea's mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments. The minerals it contains, such as magnesium, chloride, calcium, sodium and potassium, are a boon to irritated and stressed skin. Afterwards, you can float comfortably and effortlessly on the water, which, thanks to its high salt content, gives an incredible feeling of weightlessness.
By the way, out of respect for the Islamic culture, some parts of the beach are only bathed fully clothed. The best thing to do is to orient yourself to the locals, then you won't run the risk of putting your foot in your mouth. But Jordan is a very open-minded country, only a dress code is enforced with vehemence, because as in most countries, Jordan currently has an extensive mask obligation. We are prepared, after all, the FeelSafe mask set from Pack Easy has been accompanying us through everyday life for quite some time.

Where Mars seems close enough to touch
Relaxed all around, the migratory bird of Pack Easy leads us to another extraordinary place, which he already had the chance to admire in all its splendor from the bird's eye view. Wadi Rum is the name of this unique desert landscape of sandstone and granite, which has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition to bizarre rock formations and deserted rock towns, the play of light and shadow at sunrise and sunset is particularly impressive.
Climbing tours, camel trekking, jeep safaris or a ride in a hot air balloon are also popular activities in the desert. It is therefore worth planning one or two nights in a Bedouin tent to experience the magic of the wilderness not only during the day but also under the Jordanian starry sky. The red desert sand and the barren rocks alone remind us of an extraterrestrial experience on Mars. Those who want to intensify this impression will spend the night in one of the futuristic "Martian Domes", a semi-circular tent, equipped with all luxury and comfort.
Aqaba - Dream Destination at the Red Sea
Jordan is an exceptionally dry country with scarce water resources, but in the far south, on the Gulf of Aqaba, the country borders a branch of the Red Sea. The port city of the same name lives from tourism and attracts mainly diving and snorkeling enthusiasts with its year-round ideal conditions. Especially popular is the private Berenice Beach, from which glass-bottom boat tours are also offered. In addition, excursions into the desert or sailing trips are offered. But it is also worth to explore the city of Aqaba on foot, it is not very big and all sights are within easy reach. For a short trip into Jordan's past we recommend a visit to the castle ruins, which are called Aqaba or also Mamluk Castle. It was here that the famous Lawrence of Arabia achieved a major success during the Arab revolt in 1916. Especially beautiful is also the mosque Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, the bright white building with countless ornaments, decorations and columns is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture.

Exhausted and moved by the countless impressions we end our journey with a view of the Red Sea and in the knowledge that one day we will return to this beautiful country where there are so many more hidden cultural treasures to discover. Several months have already passed since the migratory bird of Pack Easy set off on its journey south. We have met many people, languages, cultures and traditions on his journey, a colorful palette of memories that will stay with us forever. Traveling makes the world a little bit more colorful! With this in mind, accompany us on the next and last stage of our journey and show your colors: https://colouryourjourney.com/.

This year, however, nothing is the same anymore. A small virus restricts us travelers, cities or even whole countries refuse entry to travelers. Luckily for us, migratory birds do not need a landing permit, so we may nevertheless take you on a mental journey through Tel Aviv, in the hope that this wonderful city may open its gates again very soon.
"Tel Aviv Nonstop City" with this slogan advertises the city for itself and hits the spot. In Tel Aviv there is always something to do, to see, to enjoy, to experience. Its inhabitants are famous for their exceptional tolerance and zest for life, which they infect visitors and locals alike. If you ask where this joy of life, this peace and serenity comes from, many people just shrug their shoulders with an equanimity. Perhaps it is the dark clouds that are brewing over the city from time to time and encourage people to live in the here and now.
Gloomy clouds as a symbol of conflicts between religious groups, fanatics and the state government, which have been seething the port city of Jaffa since time immemorial. But safety is the top priority in Tel Aviv, which is why we can now explore this fascinating city with ease. The two districts of Jaffa and Tel Aviv have now melted together, on the one hand the urban and dynamic Tel Aviv, on the other the traditionally oriental and cosy Jaffa. Just a few steps away from the oldest port in the world, you can stroll between time-honored buildings, flea markets, handicraft studios, boutiques and pretty street cafés with green terraces. It is worth stopping and taking a closer look at the winding alleys from time to time. Antique doorknobs, including a simple shoe or house numbers on green and blue ceramic signs bearing the twelve signs of the zodiac reward the attentive eye.
Although most visitors come for a short gallery hop, the beach promenade, St. Peter's Church or the bell tower, the most popular places to visit are the old churches of St. Peter's or the bell tower. But a visit to Jaffa is always also a journey into the past. Here, Jews, Phoenicians, Hasmoneans, Egyptians, Napoleon's troops, Palestinians, Ottomans, Europeans and Russians have all left their traces.
Scene meeting place and booming cultural center
At the foot of the old town of Jaffa in the artists' quarter Neve Tzedek, a very special place awaits us: Ha Tachana is the name of the old railroad station with the historic railroad line that once connected Jaffa and Jerusalem. In a project lasting several years, the 22 buildings on several thousand square meters have been converted into an impressive cultural and leisure area that impressively demonstrates how much the young, modern generation and its passion for a Western way of life is making its way into everyday Jewish life. Especially the evenings in the colorful oasis are very appealing to us. Concerts and contemporary dance, even beer festivals (although only little alcohol is drunk here) or art exhibitions attract young and young-at-heart visitors. Outside under trees decorated with fairy lights, a gentle breeze and the setting sun underline the peaceful, relaxed evening atmosphere.

A celabration for the senses
Early in the morning, when the sun is not yet burning relentlessly from the sky, we set off for one of the liveliest and most colorful places in Tel Aviv. The Carmel Market is the largest fruit and vegetable market in the metropolis. Here the city's chefs stock up on fresh produce and local produce and let themselves be enchanted by the scent of aromatic spices. The traditional market, which has existed since 1920, attracts many visitors, and also offers clothes, shoes and bags. But the focus is on enjoyment. We also treat ourselves to a short espresso break in the Cafe Bshuk. This tiny store, where a few chairs invite you to linger, is one of the insider tips among market visitors. In addition to international coffee beans and accessories, especially the varieties from the traditional roasting plant in Haifa are among the bestsellers. Fresh and full of energy we stroll again past the colorful stands with exotic fruits and regional delicacies and ask ourselves: What do people in Tel Aviv actually like to eat best?

Humus, Hummus or Houmous?
Two things belong to the cuisine of Israel, just as pizza belongs to Italy: hummus and pomegranate. The deep red, juicy fruit and the creamy chickpea puree are something like the national pride of the Israelis and are known far beyond the borders. Yet nowhere else is their taste so full-bodied and intense. Pomegranates are revered as a superfruit in this country. No wonder, the small seeds are full of vitamins and fiber and are also extremely decorative. The juice of this extraordinary fruit is also very much appreciated in Levantine cuisine for refining sauces and soups and for its deep red color. Incidentally, countless myths surround this exotic fruit, which is said to contain exactly 613 seeds, the same number as the 613 commandments and prohibitions of the Torah. But the favorite national dish of the Israelis is "hummus". There are countless spellings for this traditional dish, but it is always pronounced with a Swiss "ch" and "o" instead of "u", which is roughly: "Chommos". The creamy mush made of chickpeas, tahina and olive oil is offered in at least as many variations: Sometimes cold, sometimes warm, with meat, with vegetables, pure or strongly spiced. Only the freshly baked flat bread, which replaces spoon and fork, is its faithful and constant companion.
Sarona - the "smallest city" in the middle of the metropolis
Another monument preservation project of Tel Aviv's urban planners is now one of the hotspots and most popular meeting places for locals and visitors alike. Sarona was built over 150 years ago by a German Templar society that wanted to exemplify and spread Christianity. The charming houses have been lovingly restored, in between there are cobbled streets that always bring back memories of our European home. Although we are in the center of Tel Aviv, we feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The clocks seem to tick slower here, Sarona is the perfect place for an extensive break. The heart of the up-and-coming quarter is the covered "Sarona Market" with over 90 different food stalls. A true paradise for gourmets, because here the most delicious dishes from all cuisines and cultures are brought together, combined with each other and perfectly prepared for all senses. You could feast here all day long, but a number of museums and boutiques also invite you to explore, or you can simply sit down on one of the grass-green meadows and watch happily and saturated the dragging clouds in the bright blue sky.

From morning to night - every time of day has its special charm on the beach
The inhabitants of Tel Aviv are bon vivants, we have noticed this several times now. They cultivate the sunny sides of life and remain friendly and relaxed despite the noticeable hustle and bustle in this big city. Is the high life expectancy a result of this? Or is it perhaps rather the conspicuous inclination to body cult that catches the eye especially along the beach promenade? Almost every beach has beach volleyball courts, bike paths and street-workout equipment, where young and old can work out together. It actually seems as if everyone keeps fit here. Tel Aviv's beach promenade stretches for 14 kilometers, but is divided into different sections. For example, there is the religious beach, which is open to men or women on a daily basis, or the Atzmout beach for homosexuals, the Hilton beach, which is said to be the best for a swim in the sea, or the Frishman beach, which is voted the most beautiful by the locals. In the evening hours, many of the city's residents are drawn to the beaches for barbecues and thick clouds of smoke mingle with the surf. Here we hear Hebrew, there a few Arabic words, there is singing and laughing. But we are drawn a few steps further. Only a few minutes away from the beach is the Imperial Craft Cocktail Bar. Here, behind the bar, you will find the most famous names in the scene and beguile the guests with extraordinary creations. The artfully draped drinks are not only meant to taste good, but with sonorous names such as "La Vie en Rose" or "Prelude to a Kiss" they also evoke a unique attitude towards life.
White City - a game with light and shadow
Tel Aviv is one thing above all: unusual, striking and eccentric. And so it is hardly surprising that a number of at first glance inconspicuous Bauhaus buildings here have been named a UNESCO world heritage site.
The Bauhaus architecture originated in Weimar, Germany, and from there it was spread all over the world. In the "White City", with around 4000 buildings, the largest ensemble is located in the "International Style", which is characterized above all by functional and rational forms. Between 1931 and 1956 the masterful work was created, which confronted the architects, most of whom were of German origin, with a number of local challenges. For example, several thousand trees first had to be planted to consolidate the sandy terrain, and the lighting conditions were of course quite different from those at home. With smaller windows, asymmetrical facades or sun shades, the climatic conditions were taken into account, but nevertheless, light-flooded rooms, courtyards and squares were created. Most of the most beautiful buildings are located on Rothschild Boulevard and around Dizengoff Square. It is the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and was recently restored to its original state after years of unsuccessful renovation, making it one of Israel's greatest architectural sins. Today it shines in its former glory. The curved balconies and facades of the surrounding buildings are particularly eye-catching, almost reminiscent of ships. One of them is the former Esther cinema, now a beautiful hotel, in whose rooms the flair of the 1930s cinemas can be felt everywhere. In the north of the "White City" are the Jehoshua Gardens - a huge park on the banks of the Jarkon River, which has become a popular retreat for city dwellers. To the northwest is the port of Tel Aviv, today a popular nightlife district with countless restaurants and clubs.

On their journey south, the migratory birds of Pack Easy have impressively shown us the beauty and diversity that can be found on all continents. Also in the north, east and west - traveling has always been an enrichment for us humans.

This is also true for our migratory bird, which sets off from the Aegean Sea for one last time to the north to experience late summer in the fairytale city on the Bosporus.
Flying high
The best view of Istanbul is during the landing approach - there the Golden Horn glitters, there the Bosphorus, which meanders over a length of 30 km from the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea and separates the European from the Asian mainland. Proudly, countless minarets tower skywards and blend in seamlessly between magnificent domes and skyscrapers. No wonder, the city dwellers are drawn high up. A restaurant without a rooftop bar seems unthinkable in this city, too captivating is the view from above of the teeming and bustling streets and alleys.
For a particularly spectacular 360-degree panoramas in a luxurious ambience, a visit to the restaurant of the same name "360Istanbul" in the noble district of Beyoğlu is worthwhile. When the sun sets behind the Bosporus, the gourmet restaurant is transformed into a hip nightclub where the international jet set meets night owls from Istanbul's high society. Beyoğlu is one of the most western-style districts of the city; on the main shopping mile "İstiklal Caddesi", local and international boutiques line up side by side and countless side streets and passages invite you to explore. If your feet get heavy, the nostalgic red streetcar will take you up and down the street. And it's worth taking a break, because in the street cafés, restaurants and rooftop bars people dance until the early morning hours.

Hidden cultural treasures
Travel guides count the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia or the Sunken Palace "Yerebatan Sarnıcı" among the most impressive sights of Istanbul. They are all just a few steps away from each other in the historic old town "Sultanahmet". But while strolling through this district, many other mosques and museums catch the eye, whose treasures remain undiscovered by most visitors. The former Great Palace of Constantinople, which was decorated with the most beautiful and colorful mosaics from mythology, is one of these hidden beauties. Unfortunately the palace was destroyed, but the paintings are mostly undamaged and of inestimable artistic value. The museum is located at the Arasta Bazaar, an oriental market that offers traditional handicrafts and a wide variety of delicacies from the Orient. A beguiling scent rises to our nose, of fresh figs, aromatic spices and seductive sweets. But there is something else that mixes into the exotic mixture of scents: Sultanahmet is home to the oldest shisha bars of the Ottoman Empire, the most authentic one is called "Çorlulu Ali Paşa". This 300-year-old former school is the most popular shisha bar, known beyond the city limits for its irresistible apple tobacco. Here hipsters and tourists puff next to seniors with deep furrows and wise eyes that give them an omniscient aura and contribute to the mystical atmosphere in the haze of tobacco. A centuries-old tradition that, despite its notoriously bad reputation, has become an integral part of the way of life of the locals.

A centuries-old ritual for body & soul
In addition to the shisha bars, a visit to a Turkish bath also invites you to let the whole magic of the Orient work its magic on you. Visitors to the almost 300-year-old traditional "Cağaloğlu Hamami" feel like they are in a fairy tale from 1001 nights. Vaulted ceilings, high columns, marble halls, candlelight and seductive aromas beguile all senses and open the gates to another world. Traditionally, men and women perform this ritual separately, it is supposed to be a place of complete relaxation where body and mind are purified. A visit to a hamam follows a ritual that is always the same. First, the visitor relaxes with a glass of tea in a room that is warm to the body, then he enters the hot room, where golden bowls are waiting for him. These are filled with warm and cold water, which is alternately poured over the body. After the ritual washing you make yourself comfortable on a warm stone. Finally, the real highlight follows, a pampering body peeling with a subsequent foam massage. The result is balm for body and soul, we are relaxed and feel much purer and more beautiful. With this feeling we go to the relaxation room and let ourselves be further pampered with tea and Turkish sweets. By the way, the "Cağaloğlu Hamami" is only a few steps away from the "Gülhane Park", here you can watch parrots and enjoy the silence so that the effect of the traditional bathing ritual lasts for a while.

The somewhat different city tour on two continents
Karaköy is one of Istanbul's most up-and-coming neighborhoods and embodies in miniature what makes the Turkish metropolis so charming. Here, suits sit at business lunches, fathers of families at the afternoon tea ceremony, mothers push baby carriages through the streets and street artists form the musical backdrop. The quarter is filled to the core with colors, smells and sounds that merge altogether. Especially charming is Hoca Tahsin Street, where we stroll under countless colorful umbrellas that magically draw our eyes upwards. A line of sight that is worthwhile. Since artists have been inviting to an international street art festival every year, impressive murals and graffiti adorn the once barren walls and facades. We find sightseeing of a different kind and let the works of art lead us through the streets. The intensity of these pictures, their messages and the sheer size of the works of art, some of which are several meters high, encourage us to marvel and reflect.
In the evening, the streets of Karaköy are filled with the sounds of jazz clubs, voices and the delicious smells of the local cuisine. We too are slowly getting hungry. One of the most popular snacks in Istanbul is "Balik-Ekmek" in English: fish in bread. Fish and seafood is available everywhere and for every budget, but for the truly authentic experience, you can buy the fish roll from one of the numerous fishmongers directly on the beach.
More Street-Art and unusual delicacies
Strengthened, we want to pay attention to the street art artists in Asia as well. From Karaköy in Europe, ferries take visitors across the Bosporus to Kadiköy in Asia. The crossing does not take long and with a little luck you will catch a glimpse of jumping dolphins swimming behind the ferry. And something else catches the eye of us bird lovers; countless seagulls glide screeching over the heads of the crossing passengers and snap greedily for bread crumbs in the air. "Simit" is the name given to the bagel-like bread with sesame seeds that is shared with the seagulls in the old tradition.
In Kadiköy, life goes round and round - when some get up, others go to bed; what starts at sunrise in the fish market ends at the same time in the bars and restaurants of the lively neighborhood. And yet everything seems a little more relaxed and peaceful here on the Asian side of the metropolis. We dedicate ourselves once again to graffiti; suddenly a larger-than-life tiger jumps at us, but portraits and floral designs also embellish the sometimes desolate buildings. Also on this side of the Bosporus one feels almost invited to just let oneself drift. While we sip our "Raki" with pleasure, we are told about another unusual tradition that unites the young and young-at-heart inhabitants of Istanbul. After a night of drinking, people in Kadiköy like to meet for soup at "Kimyon" - so far, so ordinary. But this is where the most diverse offal is served: tripe, liver or pig's trotters give the broth its powerful content and strengthen the night owls' spirits.
Four bridges between two worlds
Although the "Metzgete" is also a tradition in this country, slaughter cattle and offal are not on everyone's menu. But the culinary offer in the world metropolis is just as versatile and multi-faceted as the Istanbuli itself. Our hunger leads us back to Beşiktaş in European Istanbul. By the way - as idyllic as the ferry crossing is, if you want to get there quickly, the metro connects the two continents in just a few minutes' travel time. Our next destination is a club, restaurant and meeting place for high society in one. The "Ruby" is a hip place, popular not only for its exquisite food and cocktail creations, but also for the fabulous view over the Bosporus. In the wonderful ambience we enjoy the extraordinary creations from the kitchen and the view of the former "Bosporus Bridge". The imposing suspension bridge, which at the beginning of the 1970s was the first connection by land between the continents, was renamed "Bridge of the Martyrs of July 15" after the attempted coup d'état in 2016. Today, there are four bridges connecting the Orient and Occident, and one of them should be the destination of every trip to Istanbul. Although it is not nearly as long and mighty as the modern suspension bridges, it is absolutely unique. While eight lanes of traffic on the upper level take commuters across the Golden Horn, the cafés and restaurants on the lower level are bustling with activity. And anglers throw out their rods everywhere, hunting for freshly caught prey. The two-story Galata Bridge is a rare experience and a symbol of life in this city of millions.
The secret rulers of Istanbul
Istanbul has many special features and one of them makes the hearts of cat lovers all over the world beat faster. Among the almost 16 million inhabitants of the metropolis, there are thousands and thousands of cats. Street cats, to be more precise, but for these proud four-legged creatures this term would almost be an insult. They may live on the streets, but they are the secret rulers of the city. They are cared for and nurtured, they are given names and are looked after with indescribable care. Fishmongers share their catch, restaurant owners greet their four-legged regulars, and food and water bowls stand at every corner. Some people even build houses for the cats and take touching care of their mothers and their offspring. The great love of cats in Islamic Turkey is traced back to the prophet Mohammed, and many legends have grown up about him and his beloved cat Muezza. It is said that he once cut off the sleeve of his robe on which Muezza slept so as not to disturb her when he had to get up. Therefore, it is not surprising that in Istanbul's mosques cats are even allowed to pray! The elegant balls of fur also accompany us on every stage of our journey, sometimes they blink tiredly from the roofs, sometimes they stumble clumsily between our legs. A documentary film has been written about the street cats of Istanbul that has won the hearts of audiences around the world, and they even have their own Instagram account.

The Island of Lovers
Already soon, our trip on the yacht will end. We reach the southernmost island of the Cyclades and the most well known island of Greece. Like sugar cubes, the houses lay on the rugged rocks of the volcanic island Santorini, the steel-blue domes of the churches and many coloured flags make the postcard idyll perfect.
The popular island exercises a nearly magic attraction on travellers to Greece. The picturesque villages with their white-washed houses and marble lanes, the fascinating view on the blazing red sun, which evening after evening sinks into the sea behind the horizon and the storybook village Oia make a journey worthwhile.
We start for once early in the morning, because the sun rising covers as well the magic coulisse in a warm light and brings the cave-houses to shine. And as we are already awake, we have enough time for a discovery trip far from touristic villages. In the south of Santorini, the village Emporio of the Cyclades enchants the few visitors, who walk in an idle manner through the medieval fortress. Here are only few souvenir and coffee shops, but some original tavernas, which are specially hospitable and serve authentic and regional delicacies.
In front of the village entrance there are eight windmills along the road and show the way to the chapel of the Prophet Ilias. Only few of them are still totally preserved, but they still mark the antique atmosphere, as well as the heavily loaded mules, which cross from time to time the road. Arrived at the chapel, we have a spectacular panorama over the fairytale idyll of the island.
Battle of the Giants
Before we return to our home port, we make another small trip to the Dodekanen islands. To these belong the important vacation resorts Kos and Rhodos, but as well some smaller islands, which we want to see at close range. The small island Nisyros, about 41 km2, lays only a throwing of a stone from Kos. That's at least what the legend said. The god of the sea, Poseidon, during the battle against the giants , took a rock out of the island of Kos in order to kill the giant Polivotis. With success - the rock made the giant flat and it became the mentioned volcanic island.
At Nisyros the few daily tourists from Kos want to visit the capital Mandraki or the Stefanos crater. But in the evening, when the excursion boats have left, the silence and the grace come back to the island. We stay. Because among the few possibilities to stay over night on the island, there is the nicest and smallest boutique hotel of Greece. The two floor stone house Melanopetra fits totally in the crater landscape of the antique village Emborio. Two simple and purist design apartments, which are totally in white and natural shades stand for style and elegance. On the just as stylish terrace surrounded of sounds and smells of the Mediterranean scenic and the view on the sunset, we are feeling happy, relaxed and arrived at our destination.

In Donji Grad, the newer district of the town, you will find the main shopping street and the business buildings of the town. However, between rather sad concrete buildings, some remarkable architectural projects attract our attention.
Green Pleasure in the Centre of the Town
From a bird's-eye view, the green belt in the middle of the town's centre attracts one specially. The "Lenuci-Horseshoe" got his name from the architect and city planner, Milan Lenuci, who was in the second half of the 19th century mandated with the planning of
The "Lenuci-Horseshoe" are public gardens and made out of seven places and parks, which connect these, and a botanical garden. Lenuci designed the arrangement of the places, which are all named after important men of the Croatian history, in form of an "U", which gave it the name of the "Green Horseshoe".

The favourite green oasis of the capital continues, however, to be the Maksimir Park, who represented at his inauguration in the year of 1794 the first public garden in the South-East of Europe and is still today the most ancient and largest of the region. This historical place with its effective mixture of English lawn and forest, in between foot paths, lakes and pavilions, permits the inhabitants of
In the Maksimir Park is as well located the zoo of Zagreb, which started at times with three foxes and some owls and counts today more than 2'200 animals on about 7 hectares. All in all this enormous park has a surface of 316 hectares and gives children and adults enough space for their leisure activities of all kinds.

Charming Sailors' village
Finally arrived at the coast, firstly we want to take a break in beautiful Skradin in the district of Sibenik. In the small village, which the fishers and sailors equally like, the river Krka is changing into a long and deep bay. From here on, water taxis bring visitors to the impressive cascades, natural paths and lakes in the National Park of the same name.
We have for the first time another destination. Since decades the family Bulat manages the Villa Bonaca near the marina. Here merges tradition with modernity: The glass bordered terrace opens the view over a Mediterranean pool lay out directly to the picturesque fishers' and sailors' boats in the harbour. The rustic restaurant serves authentic Dalmatian delicacies in a typical ambience. At sight of a traditional Skradin-Risotto it makes our mouth water. This regional dish is a masterpiece of cooking. You need onions, veal, rice and according to the family's receipt even more secret ingredients, and it has to cook during 12 hours on an open fire. A tasting experience, which we do not want to miss.

Prizewinning town beach with view
But what would be a trip to the sea side without going to the beach, sea water and bathing pleasures? Naturally, there are numerous beaches and bays along the Adriatic Coast. Our choice falls today on the small, but very fine town beach Bahj, just a few minutes from the old town of Sibenik. The town lies on a bay, the water is specially clear, calm and turquoise and glimmers in the sun. Banj offers a charming view on the cathedral Saint Jacob, the Michael's fortress and the channel of Saint Anton.
In Sibenik are another three fortresses, which give you a magnificent view over the coloured roofs of the town and the Archipelago of Sibenik with its ten big and multiple small islands. They serve as well as coulisse for innumerable cultural events as Chanson Evenings, Middle Age festivals and short film days.

A forgotten energy place
Who wants for a moment to escape from the summer heat, can come with us on a walk through the Mediterranean monastery garden of Saint Laurentius. After nearly 100 years having fallen into oblivion, this magnificent place has been renovated and in 2007 reopened.
The monastery garden has been arranged according to the well-known medieval plan: a cross way, in the centre a small fountain, around box trees and beautiful smelling roses. On four parts there are cultivated medical herbs and spices. A remarkable fact is a collection of thymes with magnificent coloured leaves in reddish, mauve, grey, bright and dark green.

A culinary celebration for the senses
Shortly before our trip is going to end, an exquisite experience at the first class and repeatedly prized Restaurant Pelegrini in the centre of the town is awaiting us. The chef and owner, Rudi Stefan, is tempting friends of the "Fine-Dining" to try his extraordinary creations of regional specialities and invites in a nice atmosphere, far away of the mass tourism and bustle, to a celebration of all senses.
His prized dishes are accompanied by wines of Croatia and the surrounding countries of the Balkan. But as well the choice of cocktails and their impressive list, is tempting you to finish the warm summer evening with pleasure.
Mysterious Game with the Elements
Evenings at the Adriatic Coast are especially appealing. It is worthwhile to stay mornings some time longer in bed and make the warm summer nights to days.
Two extraordinary spectacles attract shortly after the sun set to the Promenade of Zadar. The sea resort at the Adriatic Coast was originally known for its roman and venetian ruins and its old town situated on an peninsula. Some years ago there were added modern crowd-pullers designed by the architect Nikola Basic. This Croatian visionary concentrated himself totally to elements and created two works of a special kind.
The lighting game Pozdrav Suncu, in English "Reverence to the sun", has been an adaptation to an amphitheatre. The large place of 22 meters is made up of 300 multi-layered glass plates, which are set in the floor and represent the sun. In the glass plates are solar cells integrated and small, coloured luminous products, which during the day collect solar energy for illuminating the Promenade in the dark.
Just nearby is Basic's first project the Sea Organ, an experimental instrument, whose sounds are produced by the waves under large stone plates. Although the sounds seem strange and incalculable, they form still a harmonic and atmospheric overall picture.
At this extraordinary place, we will end this stage of our trip to the South. Croatia has impressed us with its fine sense for combinations of tradition and modernity, its passion for regional specialities and customs and its unique scenic beauty.

Nearby the Simssee you will find an enchanted art nouveau mansion, whose historical appearance is in good contrast to the innovative ideas of its inhabitant. The mansion is the working place of the label "Lieblingsteil-Upcycling Fashion". The creator, Gudrun Weber, in her nice workshop has devoted herself totally to the "Upcycling". Her passion is to work with high quality materials. Out of old favourite pieces, she is creating new ones and is putting all on sustainability. So, for example, a pair of old jeans will serve to make a casual Dirndl and out of remnants the matching apron. Energy places: Plenty of energy, please
The degree of energy places are measured in so called Bovis.
The diviner establishes the intensity of an energy place. Have we to measure or even divine, when we feel us intuitively well in place? "I have nothing felt, but it was very pleasing." So and similar sounds it when people talk about an energy place. It is evident that there are places in the world, whose beauty lets open our hearts; they will place our common sense on the edge of our comprehension and will appease our eyes and calm down our pulse. It is worthwhile to discover these moments of energy as they make us realise our well-being and are enchanting us without any tricks. These tips have been discovered by the Crew of Pack Easy.
There is no need to go on a long voyage for finding energy places. The passage of the "kleine Emme" is a symbol of life. It shows how a peaceful river can overcome obstacles and at the same time will start to swirl. But enriched with oxygen and new information it will continue calmly its way. Sometimes it is a challenge to accept the silence and to slow down speed so that positive things can emerge.

Energy in the filled picnic basket
Sandwiches are not an easy snack. In order to be really tasty, they are only prepared with the best ingredients and prepared with loving care. The stuffing - a sort of a "Salade niçoise" - leads us to the South. You need the following ingredients:
- one tin of tuna fish without oil, cut into small pieces
- anchovies, cut into small pieces
- chopped olives and onions
- marinated artichoke hearts cut into pieces
- some chopped herbs
- one pepper fruit cut into strips
- a mixed sauce of: 2 tea spoons of French mustard, 1 tea spoon of honey, the juice of half a lemon, 2 table spoons of olive oil and some salt - and then mix it.
Now you cut in half a "baquette", then cover it with salad leaves and spread the delicious mixture over it. A bread board and knife, two glasses or cups, something refreshing to drink and a soft blanket: then everything is ready for your pleasant picnic.
Guerilla Gardening: Growing energy
At the beginning there was protest and civil disobedience against too many dreary places in town. The trend for the warlike name of Guerilla Gardening started at the beginning of the 1970ties in Great Britain, Germany or New York. Today the Guerilla gardeners are neither activists nor rebels. They are people like you and I, who green many places and this in order to make their district more attractive. In

Another inspiring source full of useful tips and calls you to be active on your own is the following book: 'On Guerrilla Gardening: A Handbook for Gardening Without Boundaries by Richard Reynolds'.
Urban Farming: Gardening for all
Urban Farming shows most different applications. You will find it on roofs, fallow areas, on house walls, in tower blocks and on terminals. Both, the town and its inhabitants profit from this. Use arable areas together with others, meet with other people and learn again to appreciate food. The advantages for the environment are enormous: These many plants can help to preserve the biodiversity. And besides, all these green areas will help to absorb the carbon dioxide in the town and brings during summer some refreshment. Urban farming does not mean only sunny days. It asks for a lot of work and responsibility. It needs structure, confidence and teamwork.
Did you know, that there exist already "eatable" towns, Urban Farming ordered by the state as well as green airports? Here you will find some surprising examples:
In the "eatable" town of
Sustainable Silica Gel: Energetically useful?
You know them certainly, the small white sachets with Silica-Gel, which are enclosed to a lot of products and packets and protect from humidity. That is why you find them with electronic equipment, some food, with shoes and other leather articles. How and why you can use these white sachets, we explain you here.
They are made of nothing else than siliceous gel. On the sachets it is marked "do not eat", but the whites are not toxic. However, the blue ones, which are coloured with cobalt chloride require some caution. Imagine, these small sachets can absorb more than 40 percent of their own weight of humidity and are effective against bad smells.
Did your mobile phone get become wet? Does your sport-, shopping bag smells badly? Have you been surprised by a cloudburst and you got wet shoes? Did your favourite tool become rusty? Or do you want to protect photographs and documents from humidity? Then just add some sachets of silica-gel.
When the Silica sachets are full of humidity, you do not have to throw them away. They can be used again. Dry the silica-gel in the warm oven (without the sachets) and then fill it up in cotton sachets, which can as well be dried in the oven. A quarter of an hour at 100 degrees is sufficient and the sachets are again ready for use. During the drying, you should once or twice shake them.
If you do not have enough of these small miraculous sachets? Then contact us on www.packeasy.ch
Our third leg does not lead us to the south, instead keeps us back in the region. The extreme stop, to which the actual extraordinary situation forces us, has as well a positive side. It offers time for relaxing, brings an intellectual and physical order into our day-to-day life. Let us make a discovery trip through our home. There is a cupboard whose content has to be sorted out and after cleaning be nicely put in again, as well as the library and the cupboard of the bath room. We will find lots of things which we do not need any more. There is now a chance to get rid of them. So we can start with a neat and cleaned up home into springtime. Let's be lean and clean!
Clean up at home
Working systematically will make things easier. It means, all these tasks have to be split up. This has the advantage that even with children doing home-schooling and adults home-office, you will find time to do the cleaning up. If you do the clean up of a cupboard then do it always completely and never stop half ways. Cleaning and correctly putting in things. For doing this, you need boxes, cardboard boxes and garbage bags and then you decide whether things go into one or the other in order to give them away or to keep them. Some times you will find as well pieces of luggage or trolleys. They are very useful for storing in the cellar or in the loft most important souvenirs from which we do not yet want to separate us. It is not necessary to clean up the whole at once, just start with small projects, for example the library or the wardrobe. Then you add some coloured pieces like a beauty case, or a leather bowle "svuota tasca". This will result in a pleasant day-to-day living.
Sustainable spring cleaning
The cleaning is the best chance to sort out all chemical cleaning products and replace them by natural products. All products which contain Tenside should be bio-degradable by law, but this concerns only the surfaces and not their final bio-degradability. The result is that these substances go into the environment. For water organism and amphibians these substances are toxic. For human beings they are critical as they dry out the skin and the mucous membranes. Tenside on the base of oil of palm are no alternatives, as they reduce the surface of the tropical forests in Asia and
Efficient alternatives: Soft soap and methyl alcohol are sufficient against grease. Vinegar and citric acid are very efficient against scale. Try to clean once with these products. Add the economies and you will be surprised. This way you will take care of your household budget and at the same time you will do something for the environment.
360-degree-transparency for our windows
Did you know that professional window cleaners add some washing up liquid and methyl alcohol to clear water. Then the perfect transparency of a window is achieved by using a rubber scraper. Here the bird in the Pack Easy logo asks for your attention regarding birds and glass surfaces like windows!
The best period to clean windows would be after the mating season, because during this period birds are very agitating flying around and bump into windows. Bird stickers are of no use, as birds do not recognize non-moving subjects. In order to protect birds, you just spray designs with a sun protection product on the windows, so they do not anymore reflect the sky and clouds. Here we can really do something for the nature. The number of deaths of birds has gone up enormously. The estimation for Europe lies now at 95 million birds per year, for
At home the own SPA
Spring cleaning and putting in order your home means cleaning and making space for new projects and ideas. If every body is at home and we cannot find a rest, we should take a break and go for a walk. If this is not possible for you then take a bath, enjoy music or read an interesting book. I am sure that you have more than one book which waits for being read.
«Lean and Clean» applied to balconies and terraces
During winter you rather seldom use the balcony and/or the terrace, and when then only for depositing small things. But the first warm days in spring invite us to go outside. This means that garden furniture need again more space. It is the moment to clean them, best with a vinegar based product, except for wooden furniture. These will thanks to a polish find again their original shine. After having cleaned the floor and having set the furniture, one can start with the necessary gardening work. In order to be well-organised, it is useful to establish a shopping list and a to-do-list.
Plant in a sustainable manner - Low Waste
There are available a large choice of plants cultivated in an ecological way, which do not affect the environment.
Plants useful for insects and bees, as well as special information you can find in the internet. Otherwise you should prefer going to a local producer. Why buying new plants, if there are already different plants which grow well? Then you can as well exchange plants. There exist exchange sites online and offline. As we cannot go personally to the gardener's shop, a lot of them offer delivery services. The only condition is to post a group order together with your friends and neighbours. Look up in the internet what local gardeners and farmers offer. This is worthwhile.
Another remark to the actual situation: Why not cultivating plants yourself. They grow well in our earth. For getting good earth, sometimes you will find it from a new excavation or someone is collecting earth from mole's mounds. Then you look out on flee markets and other second hand providers for nice flower pots, buckets, jugs, baskets and porcelain plates. All these things are useful for plants and decorations. If you establish a list, which you carry the whole year with you, you have the possibility to buy things you need as opportunities come up. We are living in an affluent consumers' society where every thing is available. At some time, we will find everything: granite slabs, gardening tools, and a slightly battered marble top.
Regional and local food specialities
As it is not possible now to go to weekly markets which offer beautiful flowers and appetizing food, you will discover in the internet lots of sources to buy regional products. It is worthwhile to go on this digital trip. Here as well it is recommended to make a group order together with your friends and neighbours. This economises CO2 and helps local merchants to survive. And last but not least here we can move together - together we are powerful.
]]>Culture and adventure in the mountains
Andermatt is best known for its skiing. And the expansive, modern ski area certainly is a popular destination for winter sports in Switzerland. But the mountain village at the foot of the Saint-Gotthard Massif has undergone a striking transformation in recent years and has truly become a year-round destination. Join us on the second leg of our trip through southern Switzerland. We’ll show you some of the fun and fascinating things happening in and around Andermatt.
Full-steam ahead on the Furka
When summer finally reaches the high mountains in June and the flowers start to bloom on the lush Alpine meadows, the volunteers who operate the Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway begin heating up the boiler. As the steam locomotive, which is over 100 years old, hisses and puffs its way up the Furka Pass, passengers in the lovingly restored historic train cars can enjoy breathtaking views of the Alpine landscape. Starting from the Realp station, the route is an adventurous one, traversing precipitously steep terrain, crossing and picturesque stone bridges and viaducts, and winding its way through glistening tunnels at lofty heights. But don’t get scared if you hear a loud noise: At the steepest points, the driver will let the locomotive’s cog wheel lock into the rack rail, resulting in a metallic clang. The train makes a stop at the Furka station, located 2,163 meters above sea level. Here you can relax and take in the magnificent mountain views over a glass of wine at the charming restaurant next to the station. If you’d like to extend this nostalgic trip, you can continue on to Gletsch all the way the final station at Oberwald. The southern section of the route also offers plenty to see.

A trip to the source of the Rhine
In the hot summer months, the comfortable temperatures in the high mountains make them the perfect hiking destination. When your route takes you past a mountain stream or a lake, the cool, swirling waters are a great spot to cool off. If you’re looking for this kind of hike, look no further than the trail from Oberalp Pass to the Lake Toma, the source of the Vorderrhein. The hike starts off on a well-marked trail that takes you through Alpine meadows dotted with colorful flora. With a bit of luck, you might even spot the occasional marmot enjoying the warm sunshine. The towering rock formations change continuously as you gain elevation. You will have to cross some scree at a few points in the trail, but nothing too challenging. The reward at the end of the climb is truly magnificent: Lake Toma, the source of the Rhine. Now it’s time to slip off your hiking boots and dip your feet into the cool, clear water – or jump in, if you’re brave enough. The water is a bit too cold for us. After a refreshing break, the trail takes you back down into the valley along the Rhine to our next destination: the Maighel Hut.
An SAC hut for mountaineers of all ages
Is there anything better than sitting in the sun on a terrace, putting your feet up and breathing in the crisp mountain air after a long day in the Alps? The Maighel Hut is a popular place for hikers, mountain bikers and rock climbers to do just that. The Maighel Hut, or Camona da Maighles as the locals call it, is a simple but cozy mountain hut run by the young caretakers Nora and Mauro. The venerable stone chalet is proudly perched on a steep slope and offers hobby mountaineers spectacular views of the sweeping high-mountain valley. It is also a popular destination for families with children. While the parents relax, little ones can entertain themselves with a round of giant Jenga or a wobbly walk along a slackline. With all these activities, visitors can really work up an appetite! But not to worry – the hut’s kitchen serves up hearty dishes that are perfect for a day in the mountains and provide visitors with the fuel they need to lace up their hiking boots and set off on the trail.
A unique musical experience
Andermatt Concert Hall opened in 2019 and is a treat for the senses. The building is spectacular both inside and out. Its sculptural design allows it to fit seamlessly into its Alpine surroundings. And inside the hall, which seats around 650, music lovers can enjoy a truly unique concert experience. The hall is designed so that visitors sit very close to the musicians, creating an intimate atmosphere for both the audience and the artists. The opening concert featured the renowned Berlin Philharmonic, who appreciated the warmth and the acoustics of the hall. High praise, indeed! The fantastic atmosphere also inspired star conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim to reach new artistic heights at a recent piano performance, thrilling his audience in Andermatt. Moreover, once a month the concert hall provides a platform for young, up-and-coming artists to perform. Big-name acts of all musical genres are slated to perform here. At least three music festivals are scheduled for this year alone, all of which promise to engage all the senses.
Paradise for goats and nature lovers
The young Näf family operates their farm, "Geissenparadies" in Gwüest, in the heart of the Göscheneralp Valley. In the summer months, around 200 goats graze on the lush grasses of the Alpine meadows – and keep Christian and Lydia Näf on their toes. The two are always happy to take visitors on a tour of the farm and are excited to talk about what it’s like to live in the mountains, far away from the hectic pace of the big city. Gwüest is a particularly great destination for families. Children not only learn a lot about nature from hearing the Näfs’ stories and anecdotes, but they can also watch how the feisty goats gracefully balance on the craggy slopes or but against one another while grazing. Younger visitors are also welcome to pet and feed the animals. The baby goats just love to nibble on clover straight out of your hands. But the farm also offers plenty for visitors to eat as well: guests can enjoy a selection of flavourful cheeses from the farm and a delicious charcuterie plate on a bench in front of the farmhouse under sunny skies.
Traditional culinary delights
Andermatt is a paradise for foodies. From fresh oysters to regional Ziger cheese: it promises something for everyone. When staying in the mountains, we prefer something a bit heartier. That is why we want to introduce you to two restaurants that are as popular with the locals as they are with visitors.
Restaurant Ochsen
Restaurant Ochsen is a must for cheese lovers. The traditional restaurant offers delicious fondue creations that are sure to warm your heart and your belly. José, the owner of the restaurant, is a friendly and welcoming host who makes sure that every guest feels right at home. Born in Portugal, José has lived in Andermatt for more than 40 years and serves up traditional fondue like a true Swiss native. His name may not be typical of Andermatt, but his fondue is the most delicious in the entire village! Some would even say it’s the best fondue in all of Switzerland. So stick a piece of bread on your fork, dip it in the fondue pot and lose yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of Restaurant Ochsen.
Restaurant Adler
Restaurant Adler is an Andermatt institution. The rustic restaurant is currently owned by Thomas Regli, who is affectionately nicknamed “Jumbo” by locals, but it was previously run by his mother and grandmother, who turned it into a village icon. He has handed the reins over to the Wengers. The couple is also well-known in the village and is currently breathing new life into the storied locale. Its charm becomes immediately apparent as soon as you set foot in the restaurant. The interior transports you back in time to an era when skis were much taller than the wearer and snowshoes resembled tennis rackets. Despite this fact – or perhaps because of it – the atmosphere is particularly cozy and inviting. The perfect place to enjoy a coffee with schnapps or to play a round of Jass.

Off the beaten path in Lucerne
If you’ve ever been to Switzerland, you’ve heard of Lucerne. While no visit to this wonderful city is complete without crossing the Kapellbrücke from the Old Town into the newer part of the city, visiting the KKL, reading up on the history of the Lion Monument, or taking a tour of Lake Lucerne on a historic steamer, the city has so much more to offer than just the famous tourist attractions. Come join us on our tour of the undiscovered side of Lucerne.
Doing Lucerne like the locals
We’re heading out from the Carlton Tivoli Tennis Club, which played host to Davis Cup matches in the 1930s and simply oozes the glamour and charm of that era with its stylish pavilion and beautiful terrace. We continue on toward the historic Seebad, passing by countless statues and colorful flower beds. During the warmer months, a visit to the swimming area on the shores of Lake Lucerne is a must, even if you don’t want to take a swim. The Seebad’s bistro and bar are the perfect place to grab a bite or a drink, and the views of the lake are spectacular. Continuing past the Schweizerhofquai, a creperie, a gelateria, and the legendary floating restaurant Wilhelm Tell, the promenade brings us to the mouth of the Reuss river.
Our stroll through Lucerne’s historic city center starts at the Kapellbrücke, which is a truly stunning sight to behold, even for the locals. If you’re visiting the city on a Tuesday or Saturday, you’re in luck: farmers’ markets are held on both sides of the Reuss on these days, and we’re pretty sure you won’t see a more picturesque farmers’ market anywhere in Switzerland. From here, we head along the right bank of the river to Friedlis Markthalle and then on to Nils Hofer’s fish stand ... and no, you’re not the only one suddenly wishing you had access to a kitchen. Next, we climb the stairs of Lucerne’s city hall and find ourselves in Lucerne’s Old Town – the historic city center. We pass by the Fritschibrunnen, the paintings on the walls of Restaurant Fritschi and the Hotel des Balances – making sure to stop by the rooftop terrace – and continue along the Reuss until we reach the Zöpfli. If its walls could talk, this building would surely have a few stories to tell, as it dates back to the year 1600. If you walk over to the Reussbrücke and look to your right, you will see two more historic buildings: the Nadelwehr and the Spreuerbrücke.
Before continuing on along the Reusssteg toward the lake, we have time for a quick stop at the Franciscan Church. The courtyard in front of the church is surrounded by tiny, unique shops filled with beautiful handmade goods. The Alte Suidtersche Apotheke, the oldest pharmacy in Lucerne, is also well worth a visit if you have time, but now we’re going to take the Burgergasse back to the Reuss river.
For fearless sailors in terry cloth robes
We’ll be the first to admit there are times when Lucerne’s weather forces you to escape inside a museum or duck your head down and run from one shop to the next. Not that this isn’t a great way to spend the day, but, if you’re up for a bit of adventure, we recommend setting sail on Lake Lucerne as the captain of your own ship. In nothing but a bathrobe. No no, we haven’t lost our minds, we’re talking about Lucerne’s famous Sauna Boat.
The Sauna Boat, also known as the SSR1, docks in the small harbor by the four-star Seehotel Kastanienbaum, accommodates up to six daring sailors, and is extremely easy to captain – and you can even reserve cozy bathrobes and comfy slippers as well. Indulgence à la Lucerne
Lucerne natives love to spend a relaxing evening eating out with friends, and chances are good that the evening will turn into something a little livelier. Having a good time is as much a part of the culture here as Mount Pilatus and the Bürgenstock. The city is brimming with excellent bars and restaurants, but we want to take you to one of our favorite hot spots.
Pura
Carola and Bettina have traveled a lot in their lives. Inspired by the different people, cultures, and flavors they encountered along the way, they returned to Lucerne with a brilliant idea: to open a vegan restaurant. And so they made their dream a reality. Pura is located in the heart of the historic city center, halfway between the Kapellbrücke and the Rathaussteg. During lunchtime, this unique restaurant offers ever-changing menus, which are always posted on Instagram and Facebook, and you can choose from a wide array of different dishes in the evening. All the ingredients come either from the sisters’ own garden or are sourced from local farmers. If you manage to make it out of bed early enough on a Saturday morning, you simply must treat yourself to breakfast at Pura.
Timeless style
From the trendy Bruchquartier to Lucerne’s historic city center, all the way to nearby towns: the region is filled with fantastic shops run by upholsterers, glass painters, milliners, tailors, carpenters, and chocolatiers. You really can shop till you drop here, and there are three shops that we think you might just love.
LU Couture
Take a walk along the lakeside promenade from Schwanenplatz to the floating restaurant Wilhelm Tell and then cross the Schweizerhofquai on your left and you’ll end up at Alpenstrasse 4. The first floor is home to the showroom of a one-of-a-kind fashion atelier. LU Couture is working to keep traditional tailoring alive. They have around 30 apprentices earning degrees in apparel design, and their collections are all designed and sewn right here in-house. A look around the showroom proves how enjoyable the combination of creative work and fair production can be. LU Couture also offers made-to-measure tailoring and alterations. Their experienced designers are happy to help you select pieces from the shop’s haute couture collection.
Wirz & Weli Welten
Prisca Zehnder’s shop may be located a little out of the way in Stans, but it is definitely worth making the effort to visit. You could make it part of a longer excursion and see some more of what the city’s surroundings have to offer. The attention to detail shown in the interior designer’s shop leaves no doubt that she is a professional who is passionate about her work. From home goods and furniture manufactured in-house all the way to paintings by international artists: every piece is carefully curated and fits perfectly into Wirz & Weli Welten’s overall concept. After visiting her shop, it should be no surprise to learn that Prisca Zehnder creates and implements interior design concepts for private and public clients as well. When it comes to your home and your closet, if you value style, quality, and a bit of exotic flavor, then you’ve come to the right place.
Carolines Hüte & Mützen
Practically every travel guide recommends visiting the Church of St. Leodegar – which, by the way, was named after the city’s patron saint – with its mystical collection of artworks and reliquaries. On the way there or on your walk back to the historic city center, there is one quite colorful shop window that will probably catch your eye. This is Caroline Felber’s millinery shop, and it’s one you won’t want to miss. Caroline firmly believes that anyone can pull off a hat, and she prides herself on finding the perfect hat for every customer. If, for some reason, she is unable to find the right model for you, then she’s happy to create a one-of-a-kind piece based on your personal preferences. The store is also home to the owner’s own millinery, where she turns her wildest ideas into wearable works of art. Oh, and her workshop just happens to be the oldest and biggest in the whole of Switzerland.
The next leg of our journey will take us to Andermatt. Some people might say it’s not the most exciting place in the world, but we think it’s well worth a visit. Join us on Facebook and Instagram.
If you’re planning a trip, you should definitely head to our online shop first. You might find a cool trolley or a stylish weekender bag that’s the perfect match for your vacation wardrobe.

Packing your travel suitcase often starts with the clothes. But standing in front of the wardrobe you often don't know what to put in the travel suitcase and what not. The following rules apply for my outfit must haves: less is more, layer system and the clothes should be easy to combine. So, pack trousers, shirts and dresses in colours that are easy to combine and ideally put them together before you pack them individually in the travel suitcase. By doing so, you avoid packing an unnecessarily large number of clothing or clothing that do not fit. Also think in layers. It makes no sense to pack your thick hoodie and the thick jacket. This takes up far too much space and you can react less flexibly to changing weather conditions. So my tip: take singlets, thin jackets, sweaters and scarves with you in your travel suitcase, because then you can put on one layer less or more depending on the temperature.
To keep order in your travel suitcase, I recommend you to buy packing bags. They are ideal to save space and to keep order. Not only clothes can be stowed in them, but also electronic equipment and other small items that should not slip around in the travel suitcase. They may also be used as a toilet bag or first-aid kit.
Another must have in the travel suitcase is a laundry bag for the dirty clothes. Because it is not pleasant and also not hygienic to pack the dirty laundry together with the still fresh clothes into the travel suitcase. Cotton sacks are the most suitable, since they are more odourless than plastic sacks. Shoes should also be packed in a bag rather than directly in the travel suitcase. By doing so you avoid dirt and unpleasant odours on the other items in the suitcase.
4. Day pack or bag
Whether going on a city trip, on an adventure trip or on a beach holiday, a small day pack must be included in every travel suitcase. They are ideal for day trips and can also be used as additional hand luggage in case you shopped a little too much or bought too many souvenirs. Depending on your personal preference, take a backpack that you can stow flat and handy in your suitcase, buy a foldable bag or pack a space-saving cloth bag.
A water bottle is also a must in your travel suitcase. There are space-saving water bottles that you can fold together. But also conventional water bottles do their job. Either way, there are a few rules to follow: Check in advance whether the cap is really watertight. It is also good if the empty bottle is not too heavy. The right size is crucial as well. There are individual preferences, but experience has shown that a 0.5 litre bottle is just right.
It may happen on any journey: a piece of clothing tears, a toilet article leaks or a zipper breaks. In moments like this, you wish you had the most essential things to patch with you. Therefore, pack a small basic set of tape, string, thread and needle as well as small plastic bags into your travel suitcase. Then you are prepared for the small emergencies and can act at any time.
A microfiber cloth belongs in every travel suitcase. The space-saving, lightweight and fast-drying cloths are ideal travel companions, as they act as beach towels and drying cloths. If the towels in the bathroom of the accommodation do not look as clean, or if a sport activity or a bathing day lies ahead, then the towels are ideal. Another advantage is their antibacterial properties. The towels are available in different sizes.
8. Finken oder Flipflops
Whether on the plane, in the train or in the hotel room - it is always convenient to walk around in your own slippers. That's why comfortable flip-flops or slippers are a must have in any travel suitcase. It's ideal if you're looking for those you can use for several occasions: on the beach, in the bathroom, in the spa, in the hotel room. In addition to comfort and appearance, the material is also important. Rubber shoes are practical because they dry quickly and stains are washed out easily. If you leave for a colder destination, you can pack some slippers with a warm, comfortable fur in your travel suitcase.
9. First aid kit
Something can happen on any journey: be it a small cut, a graze or simply a headache or fever. You should therefore always have a first aid kit in your travel suitcase with painkillers, plasters (do not forget blister plasters), bandages, small scissors, disinfectants, wound healing ointment and personal medication. Nasal spray, throat pain tablets and eye drops should also be included in the set in the travel suitcase.
10. Reading material
Whether a short city trip, an extended backpack trip or a family holiday - relaxation is part of every trip. But how? It's simple: immerse yourself in another world and forget the stress of everyday life by reading a book. Whether hopeless romantic stories or thrilling crime stories, a great book belongs in every travel suitcase. If you want to travel in a space-saving way and don't want to carry several books with you, you can upload your favourites onto the e-reader and have your reading material conveniently available in your travel suitcase at any time. Another option is to buy the books as audio books or download them online. Books are also ideal to bridge time if you need to wait longer at the airport or before checking into your hotel and are therefore a must have for your travel suitcase. Magazines are also an alternative - whether fashion, gossip, garden or knowledge magazines, the selection is huge. A specific travel magazine for your destination, where you can find valuable insider tips is interesting as well.
11. Notebook
I always get the best ideas while traveling and I let myself be inspired by new cultures and history. Therefore, I always carry a small notebook in my travel suitcase. In addition to inspirations, helpful tips such as the most important words in the language of the country you are traveling to can also be written down or note down the best restaurants and coffee places. A small travel diary is also interesting and brings up great memories when you go through it a few years later. And don't forget to pack a pen.
Photos are a great souvenir. That's why no travel suitcase should be missing a camera. Everyone can decide individually whether a complete camera equipment including tripod and several lenses should be included in the travel suitcase or whether a small compact camera or even your smartphone is sufficient. As long as you can capture your holiday moments visually. At home you can create beautiful photo books and indulge in wonderful travel memories again and again.
13. Adapter
An adapter is also a must in your travel suitcase. Before departure, check which sockets are available in the destination and take the appropriate adapter with you. The easiest way is to get a universal adapter, so you can always use it, regardless of your trip.
14. Extension cable with multiple sockets
In addition to the adapter, it is always practical to have an extension cable with several sockets in your travel suitcase. Often there are not enough sockets or the cable is too short to charge your device. In addition, you can keep track of all your charging devices, because they are all in one place and you won‘t forget any in the hotel room.
15. Powerbank

It is not always easy to find out which part of the luggage should be packed where it should be. Most agree when it comes to essential travel essentials such as ID cards, apartment keys, mobile phones, cash and other means of payment: This is part of the hand luggage, because it is the safest kept and always at hand.
It is already difficult with some electronic devices. Although it is generally recommended to transport them in your hand luggage, there can be exceptions. Original packed, not too expensive consumer electronics, which takes up a lot of space, may well be taken in the normal luggage. However, loss or damage must always be expected. Everyone should decide individually here.
Expensive electronic devices such as laptops or tablets are always in your hand luggage. After all, nobody wants to run the risk of finding a defective device in their suitcase upon arrival. Batteries and rechargeable batteries should be stowed away in your carry-on baggage as they are forbidden in the baggage.
Medicines you need during the journey are also in your hand luggage. When travelling by air, this also applies to medicines that are not suitable in the hold because of the very low temperatures. It is also good to know that on longer trips it is often not allowed to carry a large number of medicines in your hand luggage. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to use specially secured transport boxes for temperature-sensitive medical devices.
Important: The medicines you bring with you must be for you and must not exceed the monthly requirement. Since medications are sensitive, it is best to put them in the center of the case and pack them in soft clothes or towels
If you travel only with hand luggage, you can, of course, use the following tips for suitcases on smaller pieces of luggage.
The question, what comes in the suitcase and what in the hand luggage, should now be clarified. Now it's time to pack. But before you start packing your bags, it makes sense to make a checklist. The best way to do this is to carry in your hand luggage the aforementioned documents, valuables and personal belongings and one for the large suitcase.
This is especially helpful on air travel, where luggage cannot be accessed in the hold during the journey. Therefore, children's magazines, books, toys or stuffed animals, small snacks and sweets are included in your carry-on luggage for longer journeys.
The best way to create the packing list for large luggage is to answer the following questions:
These questions help you to decide what you really need at the destination. Because too often we pack things that would perhaps not necessary. This can be reduced by realizing what is really necessary on the ground.
For example, bikinis, swimsuits and beach accessories are available in practically every tourist resorts in a large selection and at reasonable prices. But in the ski holidays, it can be difficult to find suitable bathing suits if you forget them and want to use the indoor pool.
If it is too time-consuming for you to create your own checklist, you can easily adapt my micro-packing list online to your individual wishes and pack your case step by step - feather-light!
Checklist tip: To never lose track of anything, tick each item you put into your suitcase directly on the list. Things that you need until just before departure are marked as "not yet packed" and will not be forgotten.
The destination and also the purpose of the trip determine the contents of the suitcase. However, the following packing tips apply to all trips, whether short or long journeys, small or large suitcases:
Here is another general tip for carefree travel: Better to pack less than more!
Heavy, unwieldy luggage can be a torment, especially on longer trips with changes. It's about giving up things that you're not likely to use on the trip - even if it's hard. Of course, loading your travel information onto an e-reader also saves weight.
And finally, the weight of the suitcase can be reduced enormously by using multifunctional clothing and items. The best known example is probably the Mobile phone, which can replace the alarm clock, wristwatch, camera, flashlight, the navigation system, dictionary, and travelogue.
Tip: So that your Mobile phone bill does not become a nightmare after your vacation, be sure to pay attention to the roaming charges of your provider before you travel abroad.
Furthermore, thin, flexible tube scarves can be easily turned into headbands. Sunscreen, dust mask and cap transform, sarongs are used on the beach as a dressing room, beach towel, awning or blanket, multifunction tools can replace cutlery, can and bottle opener, nail care kit and much more.
Shoes that require a lot of space should always be packed individually and if possible in shoe bags. Not only can the interspaces be better utilized, but the other items of clothing in the suitcase do not get dirty either.
And you should not travel without a zip bag anyway: They are ideal for wrapping open food packaging and lightly leaking products such as shower gels and shampoos, thus preventing unsightly messiness in the suitcase. Sealable bags are also perfectly suitable to separate dirty clothes from the rest of clean clothes.
When packing a suitcase for a destination and type of trip, it's all about the favorite clothes, because a substitute can rarely be found for a well-fitting outfit. My tip: pack an elegant base piece on business trips and combine it with several matching supplements. And bright colors are indeed lively, but they are harder to combine and should not be your first choice, especially with limited luggage - to be on the safe side, stay in the monotonous range. One, two accessories can be often taken to spice up an outfit.
The situation is different during holidays: The clothes should be comfortable and functional, the matching color scheme is not so important. It may be quiet sometimes, a piece or other can stay at home, because no one has something against a small shopping trip during the holidays. You should already plan before departure, so you do not go with a full suitcase and can not close it at the end of the holidays.
On short trips and city trips the carry-on luggage is usually sufficient. To still have space for travel souvenirs and souvenirs in the small trolleys, you can save well on cosmetics: Most drugstores offer toothpaste, skin creams and the like in practical mini format. The small care products require little space and are often used up until the return journey. Alternatively, it can be completely dispensed with shampoo, shower gel and Co., as most hotels offer these. If not, you can easily get these items almost everywhere.
On longer journeys into the distance, it takes a bit more of everything. Often there are climatic differences between the place of departure and the destination, which is why a layer system is worthwhile when it comes to clothing. T-shirts and long-sleeved cotton or other breathable materials, sportswear such as tracksuits and pants, light throws, ponchos, rain jackets and fleece jackets are particularly suitable. jackets with removable sleeves and various inner and outer pockets are equally beneficial.
Last but not least comes the weighing of the suitcase. Traveling by plane will prevent your baggage from exceeding the maximum allowed baggage weight. You should also measure carry-on trolleys, because if the permissible dimensions are exceeded, the practical companions will move into the hold and you will pay extra fees.

1) Liken Sie unsere Facebook Seite
